My weekend was spent fixing the sagging drivers seat and what a right PITA it was to remove the rear inner runner bolt!

...and can anyone tell me what this little bracket is for? I noticed one on each side at the rear whilst greasing the suspension.

The seat diaphragm has split in 2, if the cable ties don't work you should be able to get another diaphragm, my Triumph TR7 has a similar set up and I was able to get replacements for them from Rimmers.

No idea about the bracket, it's probably just there to bamboozle unwitting owners!

As I understand the little pronged bracket is supposedly there to locate on the bushes as a means of preventing them turning within the lower arm. When I replaced bushes with poly ones I could not physically replace them (brackets) on/in my 97F so I haven't got them fitted now. You will have a job to find any new ones. G.

With the Mk1 F done and just waiting to be collected, my daughter's Fiat now with new gearbox, clutch , front brakes and front suspension its finally time to start on the TF's cambelt change.

Its intersting that doing the same job on 2 similar cars can go completely differently.   Removing the starter to fit the crank locking tool was altogether more of a challenge this time. Not so much undoing the 2 nuts and bolts, they were surprisingly easy but undoing the nut that secures its main 12v electrical feed. That nut hung on for dear life and then finally the stud itself sheared from inside  the solenoid. Now that wasn't a calamity as the old starter was a bit lazy so had a better one ready to use. The real problem was that the electrical leads were now inextricably clamped to the stray remains of the stud. Freeing them took at least 20 mins to slowly grind the remains of the nut away carefully with a dremel. With the electrical connections off and both bolts out the starter still needed plenty of knocking and leverage to extract it from the bellhousing. Likely not been removed for many years so whover did the last cambelt change must have done it without a crank locking tool.
The two 18mm headed vertical mount bolts took some force to shift but the hydramount is a goner as despite plenty of plusgas it's top metal section with the thread broke away from the rest of the rubber mount. Just trying to source one now and am ordering a few other bits such as new rear drop links seeing as the rubber bushes of the originals are visibly showing their age plus new timing belt covers, inner and outer.

Took my car in for an MOT to find out what else needs sorting before putting it back on the road,   Couldn't believe it when it passed !!

Last MOT (and last driven) in 2008,  was fully expecting emissions failure, various rubbers, and so on, but sailed through all of that.

Replaced the Pioneer digtal radio that ran via an App with a Blaupunkt retro style radio and CD player.
The sound on the handsfree is amazing. Sounds like an old valve radio.

When you say it sounds like an old valve radio, does it pick up 2LO, The Home Service, Radio, BFPO, Hilversom, Luxembourg, Radio Caroline, North & South etc.
Do you have to wait for the heaters to come up & are you happy with the inevitable static, does the signal disappear when you go under a bridge?
At least you’ll be able to warm your hands on cold mornings.

😁😁😁😁
I was actually going to say it sounds like Family Favourites on a Sunday morning..with all the messages to soldiers BFPO...
I know it's solid state but phone calls are rich with none of that distant feeling.
Nowt wrong with valves AP..my two amplifiers are 53 and 45 years old!

Nowt wrong with valves at all. I recently parted with my AC30 Super Twin (early60’s) & my 70’s Marshall 100w half stack. They didn’t go far, my son is now custodian. I have a litany of sadly departed valve equipment, dwelling on their going saddens me.
