Wow AP..serious amps!
I love the warm sound of valves and the fact there are no PCB's so they can easily be repaired by an amp tech.
I'm sure your son will look after them.

Thats the way to build proper circuitry. No dreadful multilayered pcb or surface mount sub miniture components in sight.
Made to last and made to be repairable

This weekend i did a first f*** Up. As allways my go to tire for most of my cars are Kumho's but i didnt do my research well enough, so i fitted 2 kumho ecsta's 51's 205/50/15 on the rear axle, and now it drives like a boat... so that sucks. probably this is going to end up with me ordering Falken Ziex ZE310 or Toyo proxes if that is still the way to go. let's hope i can sell the kumho's for a little :)

If you were to turn a Marshall 100 upside down & squint at the gizzards, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between makes, unless you were a frequent visitor to their nether regions, Carlsbro were almost identical. Most amps of this vintage & form factor used the same construction system & circuit topography. Orange amps were my favourite to work on; as nice inside as out. At least Linden Laney knew about electronics & could predict the outcome of a modification, Marshall copied Fender & they cribbed the RCA application sheet for the 6L6 & 5885.
A bucket of components was taken into the workshop & experimented with until the amp stopped blowing up & eventually sounded right. Ken Bran had more idea than most & the Orange amp was designed by Matt Mathesius in Yorkshire.

I am quite a fan of Kumho tyres too for general use but they are sadly not the right tool for an MGF or TF as these cars are really really fussy about tyres.
Its not just the tread, it's sidewall compliance and a bunch of other factors. TFs with 16" wheels are even more sensitive than those with 15"s to the extent that even quite a premium tyre which is still wrong for the car can make it handle unpredictably. Theres a lot on this and the other forum on tyre choice for this reason. Im sorry you have only just seen this after investing in a pair of rear tyres and hope you can find another purpose for them or someone to buy them to recover much of the cost.

If you do change them you won't go wrong with Falkens or Toyo's.
I have had both on my car and would be happy with either but I did replace the Toyo's with the Falken 310's if that is any use to you.

thats some good insights as the Falkens are cheaper over here, toyo currently almost double as expensive !

I actually think the Falkens have the edge over the Toyo's but it's not much.
If they are cheaper go with them.
Just a thought...I fitted 205 50 15 all round but I went too wide on the front. The car lost some of its turn in and agility so I have since fitted 195 50 15 but sticking with factory specs of 185 55 15 might be a good idea to keep that front end crispness.
Btw..the Falkens are much quieter.

You know your stuff AP!
Very knowledgeable. I'm told my Laney is a couple of caps and a resistor away from the Marshall 100w plexi. It sounds glorious.
I know the Matamp/Orange story really well as I used two Matamps for 20 years and visited the factory in Meltham many times. In fact I helped them with the functioning and switching of one of their models to get it extremely versatile.
On their wall they have the face plate of the Series 2000 amp that Peter Green recorded Albatross on. Of course I had to fondle it ☺️
You is very knowing geezer mate!

Thumbs up for valve amps!
Fender Hot Rod and Vox AC 30 here, used to have a Marshall JCM 900 too

Just so much better than solid state.
Bit on the heavy side, though 😂

Great Pedro! Had a few Hot Rods..I believe they are Fenders best selling amp of all time.
Strangely I have never owned a Vox.

An unmolested copper faced, non top boost with blue back Celestion AC30, all in good condition, would be quite a significant investment these days.
They were never cheap, even as raggy arsed, raced & rallied, grey faced, Fane crescendo loaded dog, might leave you dining on beans on toast for a month.
