Cool, i was very interested, but was afraid of bad soundquality from the integrated amp and went with a Pioneer device. this does look nice and carplay is just super convenient

Fitted heated rear window switch and relay (for when i get glass window or hard top ), moved the low coolant warning light from the blank switch to the middle of the facia.
Then fitted the boot popper

,

by the time I had bent the rod into 745 different orientations, making brackets and spacers I couldn't be bothered to wire it in .
I tested it on the boot light and works fine .... blew the fuse taking the bulb holder out, great idea having a bare metal live right on the edge.
Wont take long to wire it as I`ve done all the prep wiring (on a bit of wood) .

Good luck! Hope all is well.
Valve stem oil seals.
If you have blue smoke on start up but then it almost goes away it is usually the oil that has got past those seals in to the cylinders.

The top (?) gear cable/gearbox divorce happened about a mile from home & sanctuary. By judicious use of what I had left & an incredible stroke of luck (no idiots around) I was able to coast & judder home, get it in the garage & over the pit. After sending the incorrect cable twice I settled in for the long haul. When finally I got it back on the road I had list a stone & a half & had a wryneck. My thoughts are with you, If you are doing the job yourself.

Thanks, and yes, I'm going to do it myself, in slow time. Just the wrong time of the year too, MOT early Sept! I'll see how it goes.

I’m quite happy to be proven wrong but I seem to recall new old stock are a distant memory, we have to rely on recreations.
I believe the outer is original, gleaned from the dear departed, with new inners & crimped threaded ends. There are distinct differences, top cable to bottom & f to tf, what is more is the inner length can’t be guaranteed to be precisely the same as your sadly deceased.
Prior to my cable failure my change was like the bolt action on a Lea Enfield; it isn’t as good as that now even though I tried, it spent a month feeling like a cap gun.
Keep us posted & if you wiz through it & have advice for the rest of us, please don’t keep it to yourself.

Gave my TF a little bit of TLC today by sorting out the wiring on the coolant alarm system the previous owner installed. So we all know the dangers and potential pain to both wallet and car that can occur when coolant levels drop unknowingly drop, and unfortunately due to the location of things the factory temp gauge isn’t the fastest to react. The previous owner clearly knew this and had fitted a low coolant alarm kit — sensor in the expansion tank, small control box, and a buzzer to scream at you if the coolant level gets low. Its actually a nice dual sensor system, taking what was standard on the LE500 and onwards and then also adding a secondary non contact liquid level sensor too.

This was on top of a host of other little mods like dual temperature probes to give me a readout of ambiant and engine bay temperature and a sensor test button too.

It was a great idea… but it was being powered by tapping into the switched 12V supply for the stereo. That meant it was sharing a feed with the radio, which while worked perfectly well, wasn't the cleanest setup and had started to cause interference when I cranked the music up. So today’s job was:
  • Rerouted the power supply from the stereo harness to a proper fused ignition-switched feed in the internal fusebox (sharing with wing mirror).
  • Cleaned up the wiring with new connectors and proper insulation.
  • Checked the system works — quick test with a lowered coolant level and the buzzer still scares the life out of you.
Now I’ve got a safer, slightly neater install that should be more reliable while removing the chance for interference with the stereo while still offering the protection and peace of mind.

It's always a source of great delight and eternal joy to discover the wiring mess left behind by previous owners and/or the demented baboons that they had employed as mechanics to work on the car!

Overall it was a decent job, just the last tap into a 12v switched was less than ideal. Still gave me a great sense of achievement getting it done right and neatly tucking everything away.
