The engine bay has now had two coats of Rust-oleum, and the mouse home looks more presentable now.
I managed to get a coat of paint on the galv subframe, so that is now ready to start the assembly process
The rear crash cans had severely corroded and parts of them were left behind on the bumper when i removed it.
The rear panel was quite rusty, i had expected this, but didnt expect it to be this bad.
30 minutes with a rotary wire brush and some Kurust, and it is starting to look a lot better.
I will paint this panel with the same Rusyoleum green, as it is pretty much all covered up by the bumper.
I also started on the re-assembly of the engine bay, i refitted the fuel lines, along with the sound deadening pad, and heat shield,
There was some rust at the back of the rear wings, the offside wasn't too bad and cleaned up ok, however, the near side was bad, and had to be replaced.

Posted 1 week 1 day ago #224316I made up new rear brake pipes, and then on a whim made a new front to back pipe, and on doing so I managed to cross thread it where into went into the tee. Next time I will loosen the tee to make things easier.
i don’t relish doing this job when the engine is in situ.
i also made a double phone holder to replace the ashtray, and swapped out the cigarette lighter for a USB PowerPoint.

Now that the TF is back to good health I was itching to get my hands on the brg F.
Permission for this involved much haggling but I was given the green light.
The previous owner had given up after he got the cam timing out while he was trying to change the belt.
I got that sorted and gave it a proper service, all new filters and belts.
Hopes were high but I wouldn't fire up...no fuel. I checked for power at the pump and that was good so a new pump was required.
Never seen one this bad.
Luckily I had a spare, after I had drained the tank, I added some fresh petrol and it started on the first turn of the key.
A good start to the weekend.

Result!
it's always nice having spares lying around. I'm slowly starting to build up a few for my own car.

I spent the morning going through boxes in stores & selecting items for their final journey. With everything neatly packed back in the boxes, I found I’d one empty & a space for it & so I put all the condemned items in that & put it back on the shelf.
Some poly bags & cardboard were dispensed with.
Hey ho.

A bit to warm to work outside this weekend, so I went out early and fitted the brake tee piece and the replaced the square nutserts, running a tap through all the others. I put some new gasket on and refitted the blanking plate, then the air box bracket, which has turned out to be something else to bang my head on.
Then I finally got round to setting up my plating kit.
The results are not bad, obviously when the parts are pitted before plating they will still be pitted after, but I am hoping it helps to keep the rust at bay.

Have you nickel plated those items or zinc. I’ve nickel plated several parts & found the voltage / current balance quite tricky. The first few experiments ended with an almost perfect collection of dendrites, it looked like a miniature nickel hedgehog.
Time & effort improved matters, as did experimentation with the plating solution; a nice mid green & 2 volts, going from memory.
It’s good to see there are others prepared to experiment, if only for their personal satisfaction.

This is Zinc plating. I bought a 9-litre kit from
eplating
after watching
this video
The hardest part is calculating the amperage required, which is 100 milliamps per square inch of surface, but once you have calculated a few, you can guess fairly well.
