It's a lot of work, but it will feel really good when you get to drive it.
Keep going, I'm really enjoying the updates.

I do like a Mk1 Elise. A mate has one. Its definitely a more hardcore sportscar than the F/ TF but it's a bit tighter to work on and a tad less practical as an everyday car.

This week I changed the heater resistor coils on the TF, thinking that this was the last job before going to the body shop on Tuesday.
No such luck..as with everything else on this car someone has been here before and has bodged the job!
The resistor pack was held in with 1 random self tapper and the ducting that normally needs to be removed for access wasn't there.
I was given tons of paperwork and receipts for work done when I bought this car, and it's quite shocking how badly some of the previous "specialists " work was done.

Hi, so where were you able to source the ducting from? G.

Reconstruction Begins

I cut out the rot by the offside subframe mount, and made a  repair panel out of 1.2mm Zintec and weldedit in.then removed the rot from the end of the sill, and fitted one of Mike Satur's panels.

I even had time to remove the lower part of the rear wing and trial-fit the repair panel. Hopefully, the sweeping up from this side will begin to slow down.

That's a job done well! Have you done welding before? I need to take the bull the the horns and do what I have to do. But at the moment I find it easier to say "I'll carry on with that tomorrow" and we all know it never comes!!
But you're doing a good job of yours. Regards G.

That looks really good.
I  used the Mike Satur repair panel on R40 and it was a lot of work to get it fitted, so well done 👏
I highly recommend his subframe mounts, they are really good.

A long time ago I was a welder fabricator, my welding set is about 30 years old. I havent done any welding for about 20 years, so I had to do a bit of practice on some scrap before I got stuck in.

So, the near side was not as bad, so only needed a small repair panel.

the closing repair panel I could trim right down as well.

next week I will attack the outer sills.

there are a few repairs to do along the bottom of the floor, but once the sills are done, I’ll put the axle stands under the subframe mounts to give me free access.

This is so cool & looks great, really wish I had learnt a skill like this. I know when i get to the stage of any bad rust I'll need to pay a pretty penny for the repairs.

How long did you spend doing these bits?
