So actually TF related today which is nice.

The 80th Anniversary has one of those rarer than usual knobs that looks impressive when fresh and new but with age loses its appeal, luster and just feels a little tired in the hand.

So I am away to start the process of refurbishing it.

I also managed to snag a new leather gear gaitor and surround on ebay for £15, so thats been taken apart, the surround thorughly cleaned and dried - amazing how much crud gets in there - and the leather gaitor has been worked over with the leathery stuff so is looking like new and critically is not torn like the current one.

while the Anniversary knob is off, it has been replaced by your bog standard alloy ball which does the job nicely.

to be honest, i've never been a huge fan of the anniversary knob, but ill source a new rubber for it and get those grub screws out and sorted before tackling the scuffs and scrapes on the painted alloy.
biggest PITA wil certainly be keeping the numbering from getting scuffed up when im doing the rest

There’s a company from Blackpool who do replacement inserts for gear knobs, plus’s a lot more. They have an eBay presence, have a look, they might be just the ticket.

As knobs age they could probably eventually end up benefiting from a replacement insert........I'm told there are doctors that specialise in this treatment! 🤣

They don't work if the prostate has been removed.

A very skilled motor engineer of my acquaintance, now no longer wielding his tools, had a prostate problem. His name was Dave Waters; subsequent to his diagnosis he was referred to as Dribbles Dave.
Before his garage equipped all the service bays with lifts, he would have to use the pit & so would take a bucket with him, an example I follow if I’m in my pit for more than half an hour.
His mates never tired of taking the piss.

1) Bought it! (New here)
2) Researched sloppy gearshift, non parking wipers, stiff clutch and stiff throttle pedal.
3) decided I’m pleased as I think I can sort all the above
4) reduced wind noise from hardtop by fitting hard top properly.
5) fitted new clutch pedal rubber after foot slipped off clutch (see 2 above)

Knob update.

Now 99% de-annodized...

What a faff that was but did it by hand working from 800grit upto a a fine scotch brite pad.
Took an age and a half to get the anodising to break but fairly satisfying at the end when a more satin finish starts to appear.

While waiting on a new gasket / rubber insert, i wondered how it would look tarted up a little just to tie in with the red interior of the 80th...

now this is just a bobble pinched from the missus and coloured so not final but i'm kinda digging the aesthetic..

Fixed the rear fog lights on our 96 F today in preparation for it's m.o.t this week.
I  had checked the wiring in the boot and all was good so I I ordered a used mfu from bitz, thinking that was the problem....it wasn't
I then swapped the switch out for a spare that I had and it worked 💪
Only problem is that the spare is from a mk2 so it will need swapping out at some point.

Another day, another m.o.t.
This time it was the TFs turn, I was really worried about this one as it hadn't turned a wheel for 15 years 😅
It passed with no advisories so I'm well chuffed and another one lives to fight another day.
