Posted 11 months 1 week ago #217786It is one of the Humber Bridge nights next week so might pop to that as its only a mile away lol
even looking at the vid from last years Bridge night it looks sparse to what it used to be 10 years ago when I used to go regular with my Jagggg , it used to be all 3 car parks and around the edge .....
I guess old cars have old owners and they die a lot lol

Posted 11 months 1 week ago #217788I do think the cars look better on 16's but I will never get the chance to try any for free and I dont want to put money out to buy any cos I'm tight!
I am sure by your comments you will be sticking with 16's and buying a set of Falkens for the fronts because they are great tyres. I'm pleased you got a set cheap and the chance to compare.
I took my car for a thrash yesterday and couldn't believe how it handled and stopped and in all honesty I couldn't drive any faster on public roads.
It made me question the suspesion too. The sound deadening has made it Rover quiet but it obviously can't stop the harshness over bad surfaces but it has made the car pleasant to drive and then when you want to have fun..well that's when the suspension really works.
I like reading about your adventures with the car cos I see me in younger days!
Good luck mate.

Posted 11 months 1 week ago #217802The 16" wheels with 215/40 16(22.8" diameter) tyres are overall slightly smaller than the 15" wheels with 205/50 15 tyres(23.1" diameter).🤷♂️
MG should really have gone for a 205/45 16(23.3") but the 215/40 was a more common size (cheaper) at the time...
The tyre size also accounts for why the speedos on 16" wheeled cars are more inaccurate. (Over reading).

Posted 11 months 1 week ago #217880I went for mid priced OE audio of the same size but with built in tweeters which stuck out slightly more and I was concerned might foul the grilles in the T bar cover. There was plenty of room there as it turned out but the larger magnets in the new speakers fouled the bottom of the enclosures slightly. Out with the heat gun to discretely reshape the plastic enclosures just enough to create enough clearance and all bolted back in.

Posted 11 months 6 days ago #217927Now on inspection it was absolutely clear that for a LOT of the advisories, the previous MOT tester was having the previous owner of the car on a bit.
I suspect the love of his life was stolen from him in the 80's by a bloke in a Montego or something leading to a festering hatred of the octagon - which is the more acceptable option than simply being incompetant or at worst trying to pull a fast one to get more work in for stuff that does not need to be done.
This was the result .
Regardles the work this week has been:
Sills repaired
Replaced rear Discs (went back to 240mm from 280mm)
New rear pads
Restored a cloudy headlight
Changed the backbox for a S/S one
Oil & Filter Change

2. Weekend Detail
3. Replace Head Unit with a Donald Trump approved Chinese Android Auto unit.

Oh Don't worry about that, the distance between the original MOT station and the one I used was 120+ miles apart
The garage I use is independant and fairly rural so you get not filter and no bull - plus he has a really nice 2.8 capri he is restoring so I like having a poke round it when im there.
just a good old fashioned garage... its a pity they are getting rarer and rarer these days.

Posted 11 months 6 days ago #217940@TA22GT You're entirely correct in your assumptions! I've since found a set of Falkens in 195/45./16 for the front at £66 the pair used with 6mm tread, so will be throwing those on in the next week or so; also picked up a cheap set of AP 4 pot calipers to refurb... it's a sticky slope isn't it
If I don't keep the 16's am gonna see if I can redrill the AP's to fit on a 280mm disc.If you want to try 16's, I'm more than happy to lend them to you for a few weeks or so if you're ever over Yorkshire or Cheshire way or anywhere vaguely close, as I'm gonna be refurbishing and painting the calipers, and still need to buy discs and pads for the AP's, am spent out for the month and in no hurry to fit the wheels as I already have decent rubber on the 15's
Cheers
