Posted 1 year 2 weeks ago #216450Can't wait to get it back.
I never grew up so it feels like Santa is coming early.
Once I remove the Ecu I will take the front bumper off and complete the front end rust protection otherwise I won't sleep counting the days until it's mobile again.

Posted 1 year 2 weeks ago #216453Oddly Ive not yet got around to removing the bumper from my TF. I did take the bumper off the F recently to do some repairs though. It's main fixings were a couple of 17mm bolts that sat just behind the front indicators. Im not sure where the equivalent to those is on a TF.
The rest is easy, open the bonnet to access the row of screws at the top. Jack the front end slightly to give better access, pull each wheel arch liner out of the way to reach in and undo the 2 vertical screws each side that hold it on to the front wings.
Its by no means a heavy panel to lift up but it can help to have a 2nd person on hand just to make sure it doesnt suddenly drop on the ground whilst it's being unbolted.

Posted 1 year 2 weeks ago #216455It actually took about 15 mins to remove has it had been off before when I followed your instructions to remove the headlights.
It's actually in very good condition.
K-Maps will have my ECU tomorrow so hopefully it will be back by the weekend.
I'm a very excited little boy!

Posted 1 year 2 weeks ago #216456Picked up some Jakabi side scoops and painted them the obvious panther black on the outside, but chose to go sunspot on the inside wanting to create a sort of reflection chamber of that glorious yellow inside.
In order to avoid making the change irreversible i also bought a spare set of intakes (in green) which i then painted in sunspot (including the grills which i readhered as they were hanging half off) in order to preserve the originals so that going back to standard requires nothing more than a piece of masking tape and a big flat screwdriver.
and there we are.

Posted 1 year 2 weeks ago #216466I don't want the power at the top end..I have far too much mechanical sympathy for anything rotating 😁
They do offer a switchable "track" map but this is a road car.

Posted 1 year 2 weeks ago #216469I wasn't sure about the burbles, on the fence about that as some of them can sound a bit much, I haven't seen videos of the "some burbles option" though, didn;t realise that was a thing. Haven't thought about the immobiliser though! Is it worth removing on these cars, I know if can be a pain in the arse on some older vehicles...
I haven't requested either so unless they have the facility to do options there, then I'll probably just be getting the standard power map. Will ask though!

Posted 1 year 2 weeks ago #216470brake pipe joiner arrives tomorrow, hopefully, to replace the bias valve - research suggests that the brake pipes are a USA spec SAE single flare where they mate to the bias valve in the TF, rather than a bubble flare, so that's likely why some have had issues fitting bias valves to standard lines, as these will probably be fitted for bubble flares which are more common in Europe. I think. Maybe. Will report back.

Posted 1 year 2 weeks ago #216472Mark said the light burble won't be obtrusive so I went with that.
I have black callipers too...others can have red 😁
I would really welcome your ooinion of the brakes once you remove the bias valve or fit an adjustable one 😉

Posted 1 year 2 weeks ago #216474I'll certainly let you know re: brakes, assuming the coupler fits.
Decided against an adjustable valve for now as I wasn't sure I'd get one to fit the existing lines and based on your feedback and others, it seems likely an unnecessary expense.
Really quite impressed with the "Hammered black" hammerite finish, has a bit of texture that does a decent job of hiding any pitting and it's more like a very dark sparkly grey, one coat and it's decent enough for a quick on the car job until a proper caliper refurb. Plus, I've been given intel for a failed MOT, failed HG 160 model that's been sat in a garage nearby for 5 years, so I've sent enquiries as to availability... if that's cheap enough then it'll likely be a different set of calipers I'll be refurbishing next.
Poly bushed engine to subframe mount / dogbone (?) type link has considerably increased NVH in slow manoevering, haven't driven it properly yet but unless it puts power down and changes gear better then that's coming off pretty sharpish as the original rubber one I replaced seems totally intact and worked fine.
Clutch feels smoother in articulation now I've replaced the molasses in the system with DOT fluid.
am up at 13 days labour and about £1k on this thing now (haven't paid for the car yet...)
