In my never ending quest to rid the car of all that isn't black or yellow i've done a custom set if TF160 badging;

And i've switched the car over to its new private plate "TF03SUN" which i've had made up with a design to emulate that of the original dealer plates it would have been wearing when it first went out on the road;

She's also been on a 150 mile road trip through the scenic Yorkshire Dales, and yesterday passed her MOT with a singular advisory for slight play in a track rod end, what a good girl she is.

I must have a major retrospective of your journey thus far, it was a fun run as I recall & I’m glad you enjoyed the ride.

This week I've mainly been driving it and enjoying it :^)

Today I tackled the leaky oil filler contraption and the failed dipstick gasket, as i was giving it a service as its done 1k since a new MLS head gasket.

Not sure if the seal on the oil filler reservoir had rolled the internal O ring at some point or if its just gone a bit funny after 23 years, and decided not to seal anymore. It was certainly quite loose on the dipstick tube.

Whilst new seals and plastic holders seem to be available, I didn't have one to hand so put the old one back together and then coated it liberally with stickaflex.

New gasket:

New plastic seal thingy that I didn't have looks like this:

Bit of a fiddly job, not much in the way of access up there. There's a 5mm allen bolt holding a bracket on to the dipstick tube which the guides I'd read hadn't mentioned. Unfortunately I cant fit a 2 - poster in my unit, so it's stands and jacks and rolling around on the floor swearing alot.

While th dipstick tube was drying I painted my rear calipers as the rear was in the air, and its raining tomorrow so they'll have time to dry off. Decided to try hammerite hammered black, which I thought would look decent -  it goes on thick and gives a really good finish, complementing X Power grey really well by being a bit darker and still having a bit of sparkle. Although it doesn't really look that good here, I'll get a better photo later.

Although this is a crap picture I think it suits the car well :-)

Checked rear wheels for play on ball joints etc and couldnt find any, which is reassuring :^)

Oh, and fitted a polybushed engine steady mount I picked up cheap on ebay, haven't driven it yet except to put in the corner of my unit but there's a little more obvious vibration in the clutch etc, hopefully that will translate into more direct power to the wheels, or it'll be coming back off...

Remap on Tuesday, and picking up some more ebay bargain stainless coolant pipes later in the week. Good thing about these cars is there's alot of decent kit available very cheaply, I suppose because alot of them haven't been looked after and are being broken. I can see good ones appreciating in future, myself.

Did a bit on the mk3 Golf too, test fitting new calipers and 17"s, reminded myself what a thing it is and should really spend some time on that soon, and I helped my mate troubleshoot his V8 Westfield which keeps dropping oil pressure For No Reason and is now due its third set of bearings in 18 miles  as a result :'^(

Filled the MG back up and let it run up to temp - no oil leaks from filler tube or gasket so very pleased! Oh, how great is that filler tube design by the way, pour it too quick and it comes out the dipstick hole, fantastic thanks MG Rover - I guess this is the counterbalance to the good looks and handling, somewhat temperamental and highly strung on occasion. No, I'm not going to say it...

Busy weekend!

It is indeed, a TVR head Rover 3.9 V8, doing about 230bhp. When it isn't dropping oil pressure and shredding big end and main bearings

My mate worked out, it had been hit on the sump a few too many times by previous owner and the oil pickup was down to about 1mm clearance as a result - it was dropping oil pressure on high revs when up to temp but fine on hot idle. Bit of a conundrum. Drilling a few holes in the oil pickup shroud appears to be the answer, as well as reinforcing the sump with some added plates as it's very low.

Hopefully this is the last set of bearings and oil, and then it'll be ready for a proper drive out. It sounds absolutely glorious though, not much chance of keeping up in the TF :-/

Can I ask about the “press insert” you illustrate & are you applying it to the dipstick?
I am unsure whether it is the correct item as it looks more like the receiver for an equaliser pipe in the inlet manifold.
Just check.

As far as I could tell from other forum posts elsewhere, it's the same part. I don't know alot about these cars or engines but it does look alot like it? I'll see if I can find the forum posts I found this info on. Give me a few minutes
