Wheraboots in Scotland?
I live near Aberdeen and use Ricky Gauld in Huntly.
He is a proper motor engineer and loves classic cars. He competes in an Imp.
Can't remember the cost.

I think the MG gods have it in for me!

The TF that I'm trying to save isn't playing nicely... every nut and bolt is proving to be a long fight. The brake lines were all scap and the calipers went straight in the skip along with the disc's.
I still have the small subframe mounts to replace and I just know how that's going to go!

I decided to cheer myself up by booking a pre m.o.t check for R40, on the way there the temp gauge went into the red very quickly.. I could hear a hissing noise coming from somewhere down the side of the engine so assumed it was a hose. Topped up the coolant and drove home with no issues,  however after getting back the oil is like mayonnaise so it's coming off the road.
At least I still have the 96 F that's on the road..just don't tell the God's.

Im sorry you are having such bad luck. Take a deep breath and plan. Will you sideline the new car and tackle R40 first?

I have been thinking a lot about these magnetic induction heater things for heating up nuts/bolts, still undecided about whether to buy one. Has anyone used one, if so is it a good investment??

My local mechanic bought one of these, and he's well impressed by it. For him it was a no brainer... but he probably uses it several times a day, most days.

I had 4w alignment done.
My car is in very good condition and I had painted the underneath and protected it with Dynax wax.
The mechanic took one look and said "This looks an easy one"
It wasn't and he used one of those guns to get the nuts cherry red. The heat is so concentrated that it did virtually no damage at all to the wax 2 inches away and a quick squirt with the Dynax made it good again.
I was blown away.
It's on my Xmas list.

Edit: I forgot to add that none of the nuts suffered from rounded edges..amazing.

I built an inductive heater & it works OK but it runs stinking hot. As it was to be used on the car I made it run on 12v & it draws an awful lot of current, I’ve shelved it until I can sort a better heat sink & some fat nichrome wire as the element.
My friend Danny is one to champion a new cause & bought one a while ago, it was £1k+ & it self destructed , so did the replacement. He was refunded.
The next was less expensive & lasted for a while. Danny is a Land Rover specialist & uses it on practically every fastening, he’s got through several, he wouldn’t be without it.
As an adjunct to a hobby toolkit & with a number of rusty nuts on the horizon, I can’t think of a better piece of kit, one proviso, make sure the warranty is more than a piece of card & you give it a good thrashing whilst under warranty. Most electronic equipment fails within the first six weeks, if they’re going to pack up. Get over that hump & your kit is likely to last. Do keep us up to date, there’ll be more than me interested.
