I do like seeing the way fellow members overcome problems or omissions in the car. When these cars were made RS232 was on 25way D type plugs & why would you want one of those in your car?
Although USB is use as a supplier of charging current in these cases, just think what you could do with your car if it were fully active.
You could have an App for everything, like turning your wipers on & washing your windscreen.
Do you think we should stick to charging our phones, it might be for the best?
You have come up with a simple solution to an ever present problem these days.

Far too much ‘tronics, bleeps and bongs in cars for me. Charging only zone!
👍🏻 Michael.

The TLC continues on the newly acquired TF.
Today I got fed up of the squeaky OSF brake, so stripped the calipers for a service. Never good when you have to hammer the relatively new brake pads out of the carrier is it, unfortunately most Garages are just parts fitters these days. Strangely the NSF was relatively fine, that's the one that usually goes in my experience. The drivers one wasn't doing much though.
Gave the calipers a quick service, checked the pins were still moving and filed down all the rust and crud off both the carriers and the pads until they could move freely, gave the front subframe and underbody a liberal spray over with Bilt Hamber Dynax S-50 whilst I was under there to seal it up and protect until I can get in to properly treating the rust, already looks better and should freeze it in time until it comes off the road over winter for some proper restoration.
I wondered why the front upper arms were so covered in grease on the bushes and upon cleaning those discovered a grease gun port! Putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with something approaching 4, I applied a grease gun to aforementioned port and it took about 10 wefts to see new grease come out the sides. Gave it a clean up and a test drive...
All I can say is wow, I thought the car handled well before, but it's so much more compliant on the front suspension now, which I'd just assumed was the "crashy ride" I'd read about on earlier TF's (late '53 plate, this one) - this is perfectly fine now, I was considering suspension upgrades before but the change this has made in front end dynamics is massive. It's also gotten rid of a lot of knocks from the front end over bumps - is this normal, and does this indicate worn bushes, or is it just a known maintenance thing that I didn't know about? And does the rear also have grease ports?
Also the brakes have gone from what I can best describe as "woeful" to something approaching merely average, which is a big step up and I no longer have to give 4 car lengths trail to the person in front of me.
New parts arrived for the weekend - 4x Goodridge braided hoses, stainless bolts and gaskets for the new toyosports exhaust and manifold, fluffy dice, and a mechanic I know says he's got a TF rear subframe he took of a front ended car about 13 years ago that's in dry storage that I can have for a 4 pack of Stella, which will go into the pile for the winter off road restoration. Am hopeful it'll be pretty clean, considering mine looks alot like it's been in the sea for 10 years and had an advisory last time out.
A local tyre spot I know has lightly used track tyres for sale at a good price - I'm tempted to whip off the selection of random crap that's on there atm and get 4x Giti semi slicks in a 195/50/15 put on, if anyone knows if this will be an acceptable tyre size on 15's - I know they come with 185's front and 205's rear standard, but is there any harm in going to 195/50/15 all round?
Oh and I'm also gonna have a go at making a servo reinforcement bracket.
And after all that, the OSF brake still squeaks. Just on braking now rather than on just driving. Am hoping it''ll wear off
To the more experienced: are polybushes worth it on the TF, or just renew old bushes as required? I do like a "racy" and direct car, prioritise handling over comfort, and have fitted them to my others to good effect (Scirocco mk2, Golf mk3) but I know it's not always worth it on some cars...
Cheers

Well done! That's a lot of work and a lot of discovery on your car.
As far as std 15 inch brakes go I fitted Yellowstuff pads and the difference is Huge..no kidding.
Rob Bell the well known Hillclimb competitor used 195-50-15 all round. We had a discussion on another now defunct forum.
Good luck with your car.

Thanks for your reply! Yellowstuff okay for road use? I thought they were a track focused pad. this is mainly gonna be a road car, for what it's worth...

Was up at stupid o'clock this morning so went out to trace the problem with the cigar lighter, turns out fuse #2 had blown (thank you Roverlike for the guidance), changed the fuse and whilst in the shed i found this dual USB charger that i forgot i'd bought and not fitted to my previous car, so set about removing the standard cigar lighter and fitting the charger, turns out it has a built in volt meter too which is a bonus, whilst there i permanently fitted the ashtray replacement cubby thingy that i printed, Really pleased with the setup but simple things and all that

My set up as well 😊
The cigar lighter is connected straight from the battery, which for an USB charger is more convenient

They are fine for road use and you would need to go harder for track.
First press feels a little different but stops just like a normal pad but after a couple of spirited corners they really do bite and haul the car to a stop. Very noticeable improvement.
I have them front and rear. I have no ABS and have removed the proportioning valve. The car now sits down when you brake hard instead of being front heavy. It feels great..but that's another discussion to have should you need to know more.
I have been involved in motorsport all my life so am used to messing with brakes and suspension and then power becomes mostly irrelevent for the road.
The chsssis on the TF is superb. It can outdrive me on a public road.
Good luck.
