The bumper will have to come off to do a proper job & one thing I know is that you’ll want to do a proper job.
General advise on this job; don’t bother with a display, stick to a basic four way unit, which will fit behind the central boot lock strut. Obviously pick the power up from the reversing lamps, a small (JSK type) plug & socket brings power from the lamp base. Solder to the appropriate contacts on the base but grind the surface off first. You will find it almost impossible to solder to the tracks if you don’t grind of first & use a hefty iron, a 15w iron won’t warm the material, never mind solder a reliable joint.
Once the positions of the warts are fixed you have to decide whether you are going to rive holes in the metalwork to allow the connector to pass through or you can do it properly. Buy four 3.5mm jack sockets & right angle plugs, cut the wart wires & solder the plugs to those & having fixed the jack sockets to the car, solder the wart plug to those.
Using this method you will be able to dress the wires to the appropriate length & you will find reassembly easier. I recommend you will need help to reassemble & those extra hands will make plugging up straight forward.
If the bumper has to come off again, you will unbolt, unplug & away; no messing about sorting wires out & threading then out through what could be scabby holes & then back again on reassembly.
Whether you follow these thoughts or plough your own furrow, do spend time marking out the hole position before boring the bumper. Look at several cars for comparative hight & spacing. Also decide whether you want warning on axis or you might find an alarm from the rear quarters handy.
Once you have committed & you are drilling holes, you really are committed!
This isn’t a “How To”, it’s a how I did it, these aren’t instructions, I am simply putting ideas out for your consideration, they are however tried, tested & they have proven reliable.

I fitted one of Bruce's low coolant alarms to the green F today. It's the 3rd one I've done so I've got it down to 15 mins now. OK the engine cover was already off when I started.
Whilst running the wires through I was surprised to spot the engine bay fan lead was disconnected.  I'm assuming that must have happened when the alternator was replaced. I plugged it back into the fan and tested it works by unplugging the ambient air sensor. All ok other than the plug's spring clip launched itself into orbit in the process so il have to source one.  odd that someone would forget to plug a cooling fan back in.

Did you make the mistake of lifting the spring clip, instead of pushing it? Most people don't realise the pushing the clip down is the correct way to release the plug without the clip going boing off into the distance, never to be seen again!

I did im afraid, even though i knew it was wrong. I tried to push the clip in several times but it didnt budge, so carefully ( or so I thought) eased it off instead. Then PING. 10 minutes of sweeping the drive and then the pavement and passers by wondering why I was taking a magnet for a walk on a bit of string but still no sign.

The plug does stay in fairly securely without the clip, which is an improvement against not being plugged in at all, but il see if 'Bitz have one when I next order some stuff from them.

The clip is stainless steel, the magnet won't pick it up!

After getting our latest member through it's mot (reminder to self don't believe a word the previous owner said..)
Anyway as the car has been in storage for a few years I wanted to give it a good service before the summer finally arrives.
I'm really glad that I was going to change the cam belt but it looks like the previous owner gave me a start by removing the covers..

Well done on the MOT! It always takes a weight off my mind when I get that little slip of paper.
I'm sure those sprockets will clean up but why expose them like that and it means finding covers now. Good luck with the belt change.

Your miscreant flying clip will find its way into a position where it will cause misfiring & other irritants.
As a stopgap, wrap a tiewrap around the bracket, pass the pointy end through a washer, bring it up between the leads, back through the washer & zip up.
QED.

Spent most of the week running new brake lines and ordering parts for the latest member of our family so I decided to have the weekend off and enjoy the good weather.

Getting ready for the summer.
