These brackets all tend to suffer from harmonic vibrations and end up cracking.
When I had to replace mine I tightly wedged some rubber tube into the fold, in the hope that this would dampen the vibration.........so far so good.

Oh...and the washers would've been used to replace a lost spacer.

Is there supposed to be a spacer? I've consulted the workshop manual but couldn't find a drawing showing how the bracket is supposed to attach. Mine's a MEMS3 MPi with the plastic inlet manifold. - grateful if someone with a similar engine can check theirs.

OK, answered my own question (see above). There is indeed supposed to be a spacer:

65 in the drawing is part number LQZ100050.

I wonder how deep it is?

Just ordered the spacer LQZ100050 and the genuine screw FS108255M from good old Rimmers. Needless to say the P&P exceeds the cost of the items but I might as well do it properly.

Isn't that where the red one is welded which shouldn't be a problem on the new one as it is a single piece, folded and bent.

Nah the weld on the red one would be a previous repair

No, I don't think so. The plate that fits to the manifold has been welded on to the rest of the bracket. You can see where the metal is overlapped. Doomed to fail but it's also cracked across the metal. The replacement is s/s is one piece and a heavier guage so hopefully with give years of service.

Got the radio working. Shan't use it but like to know I could if I wanted to! Spent another hour searching for my missing ani-theft wheel nut socket thing. Can't findid it. Bu**er. Shall have to order a new set of nuts with socket this week. Luckily I know a man with a removal tool. Then went for a nice topless drive and got bloody frozen. It has to be done!

Nah it was probably cobbled up by welding bits from 2 broken ones, over lapped in the hope it would be stronger, that cocky shit weld is in no way professional.
(so called as it resembles cockatoo shit)
Add to that the red paint is a bit of a giveaway, the factory painted them black.
And before someone suggests that the red was some attempt at customising, I ask: Have any of the other normally black bits been painted red? No?...
I rest my case Milud

The one on my car had a cocky shit weld repair, that had of course cracked through as the weld made the metal brittle.
If your gonna try and fix one of these, then the crack needs a small hole at the end of the crack to relive it, then the line of the crack needs to have a chamfer ground along the length and be oxy-welded even then it will eventually fail unless the harmonic vibrations are somehow dampened.

Just welding up the crack using arc or mig welding will only fail again in a very short time.

Drained all the OAT from the system and refilled with water and ran up to temp, allowed to cool and drained again, did this a further four times to make sure all OAT mixture had been flushed out or at least diluted sufficiently so as to allow a refill with 4 Life, removed the rad to reverse flush and fit a new bottom hose as the old one had a slight leak and was allowing air to be sucked in, while the rad is off I will fit a second fan and relay for added cooling (actually quicker cooling) I will have to wait until next weekend to finish, so its up on ramps at the rear and stands at the front in my garage, may even take the opportunity to waxoil.

Commmander.......Have you tried looking inside the locking nut cap removal tool, the little black plastic tube. I must have put mine in there so it was safe, then forgot where I'd put it. The language was rather blue when I stripped the car looking for it....
