In my simple mind, i thought of listening for the 2 sec 'whirr' of the pump priming at ignition turn on, then removing the plug from the top of the pump and trying again - hoping that the 'whirr' didnt occur, therefore proving there must be a feed?

Looking at photos, it looks like the plug connectors and retaining ring have changed at some point. Are F & TF fuel pumps & relays compatible with each other?

If so, I've just found a fuel pump & relay from an F for £60 available locally from a breaker. A good price?

They'll be the same.

The tf is only a facelift of the far superior 'f anyway

I'm not so sure.
Think the pump electrical connectors may be different.
Can't say about the relay as I've not removed the rear boot carpet yet.

I best have a proper look before buying.

I believe that the MK1 fuel pump assembly is different to the mk2F and TF.

MGF mk2 and TF PART No WFX101320 This has the silver/grey plastic cap.




MGTF 2004/2005 (Depending on what was in the bin) onwards eg LE500 PART No WFX101321 This also has the silver/grey plastic cap.



THIS WILL NOT FIT ANY MGF MARK 1 OR 2 IT WILL NOT FIT ANY MGTF 2001 TO THE CHANGEOVER 2004 THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR IS DIFFERENT EARLY MGTF REQUIRE WFX101320.

Looking at photos of Fuel pumps and removal today, I thought ours looked different than some:



Notice the different electrical connector - I couldn't get this unplugged - any tips?
As this is a 2004 TF so right on the changeover year - looks like i may have a mish-mash of left over parts in this car. Also the MGF sticker on the fuel pump - unusual or nothing to concern myself about?

on the plus side, the spare wheel bags and door handles have turned up today:



so at least thats something going right for a change!

Oh, and while listening to see if the fuel pump 'whirred' for 2 sec's to prime, the car started first time last night after turning the key...

I'm not falling for that again!

That electrical plug looks as if it has locking tabs either end. Probs pinch them in and pull.
It may just be the photos but a couple of the electrical connections into the plug look a little ropy.

It's costing me an all day bbq tomorrow (sun is out - why not?), but I've got my bro-in-law who's a good 'spark' coming over with his family, on the plus side he's bringing his test meter, lets see what he can find with his magic probes
