I think the cars behaviour is back to normal so I will finish this thread with a Cobberism..

In 2016 I was lucky to service for John Midgley who was doing the Classic Outback Trial in Australia.
It was based in Alice Springs.
The morning after we arrived we did the paperwork and got the keys to the container holding the car and spares.
As we were opening the doors we heard music blasting from an old car who turned in to the road that ran alongside the bay where the container had been dumped.
The windows were down and as the car pulled alongside shots were fired!!
One hit the container side about 6 feet behind me  Needless to say we were all inside the container within seconds!
We called the Cops who were so laid back you would think we were describing something good.
Because we couldn't give them a description of the shooter, other than he was a native, didn't know the make of the car, didn't have license plate number, the address of the driver and his DOB that there wasn't much they could do.
They told us to stay wary. Stay wary ffs ..we were there another 2 weeks!

The Rally itself was fabulous. Long 100 plus kilometre stages out in to the Outback working our way back to the Casino where we slept in the same bed everynight.
There was a day off midweek to give crews a chance to do any major work to keep the cars going.

We were running a Toyota so we took the day off  😉

We went in to Alice Springs and looked around the shops.
We went in to an Autostore and had a good look around. I spotted a set of spanners in a tool roll from 6mm to 32mm and they were on sale for 50 Aus dollars which was cheap for us.
We bought a couple of sets and they came home shipped with the car in the container.
They came in handy yesterday on the MG. Notice the 22mm is missing. It fits the ECT on the engine.
So the moral of the story is that some good things can come out of Oz..just not the beer!

I did wonder about that Toyota comment, why buy into motoring mediocrity, when character, charm & the occasional puckered sphincter, was until a few years ago, available for pocket change.

If I had the money I would probably have bought a Mk1 MR2 if I really wanted a mid engined sports car but they are out of my league for a good one. Fabulous bullet proof engines that rev to the sky and back. Apart from reliability the K series engines are on par with it for livelyness and smooth revving.
Having said that I love my little quirky mischievous and cranky little MG.
Always keeps you on your toes every time you drive it..checking gauges and listening for strange noises.
Still, in my lifetime it turns out my last classic car is a British one. How fitting.

Same here Brian!  Tis why I don't care that much about expense.

C'mon guys..I was never going to buy a Toyota!
Honest Guv.

I dunno about that, you have previous bad form with dubious vehicular choices.....................both velocipedes and Toyotas!  Who knows what other skeletons are lurking in the dark forbidding closet?

All is Not good.
The car is watertight and the cooling side is spot on.
It had developed a fault which I think is the IAVC valve.
Take me through it please.

Cold start: the ECT sensor tells the ECU the engine is cold so the ECU enriches the mixture and opens the IAVC valve to allow air past the closed throttle?
Sometimes it starts ad normal and then next time no "cold start" and the engine stalls. I have to keep the throttle on until she will idle.
Driving it today I came to a junction and as I dipped my clutch the engine was hunting.
Also there is a high pitched whistle after starting.
Am I correct in thinking the IAVC valve is faulty?
I have ordered the ect sensor and also the IAVC valve.
Can anyone confirm my thinking?
Thanks.

@Delbourt

I purchased the same Rad plug as yourself with the rubber washer.
Well the washer lasted 2 mins!
It is very soft and the heat takes all the stiffness out of it making it splay outwards.
I replaced it with a fibre washer from my heating jar!

Are these cars jinxed? Seriously?

Replaced thermostat. Car watertight and ran perfectly.
Next day no cold start. Cleaned ect sensor and Iavc and all well. Road test and ran perfect , no water loss.
Today. No cold start, took it for a run anyway. Hunting at junctions but still watertight.
Ordered parts.

Two hours later went in to the garage and found a pool of water near the osr wheel.
Looked in the engine bay and wet all around the thermostat housing. Oh no!
Yanked the front light from my bike and lit the engine up. The light caught a tiny spray of water from a pin hole in the thermostat bypass hose to the water rail. 6 inches of bent rubber with a hole in it.
Part ordered!
I have read posts where people have started a repair at the front of the car that leads to the rear of the car before it is fixed!
I seem to be joining that Club!

That's really bad luck Brian, but you'll soon have it right and running perfectly once the part arrives and is fitted.

Thanks Glyn....yes I've put it down to bad luck but then again it could have happened on a long run so better to fix it now.

I too found evidence of a drip under the car & it’s a good job there’s OAT in the coolant, if it were just water any evidence would have evaporated.
The car is now over the pit, fortunately I guessed there might have been a potential problem & have new replacements ready to go.
Fortunately I can clamp off sections of the pipe work & avoid a cascade.
