Can anyone tell me what size screws are used on the exhaust manifold heat shield? It's held on with one M8 stud and two screws, one attaches to a small bracket on the manifold to head flange and the other to a small bracket on the manifold to downpipe flange. I have tried a couple of specialists but they either didn't have them or perhaps be bothered to look. They don't show on Moss or MGOC websites either.

I presume you've got them out and wish to replace them? if so try googling fastener suppliers near me, I did and found one in walking distance that I never knew existed, you can probably pick up replacements in SS if you want.

That's exactly my intention but since I don't have the originals knowing the size would be most helpful. When I removed them they were in a very badly corroded state and I discarded them thinking I could easily get new ones.

I'm also trying to solve this if anyone knows the answer. The part number is AFP663.

I found a reputable parts supplier online who can sell the screws, but they want £7 postage. I'm hoping to pick some up locally so I can fit them tomorrow.

Take one out, stick it in your pocket and drop it on the counter when you go visit your local industrial supply house and ask x an out of these thanks mate!

should be easy to replace with a scew/washer combo...

Although mine were badly corroded I took them to Western Bolt (two miles away) and they just asked “how many”. I think they were about 10p each. Although they are an industrial supply company they have never failed t come up with any fixing I have needed for my MG’s

One of the few things I missed when I moved from the Leamington Spa area to E. Devon, was that in the Midlands, I knew of several very helpful Engineering supply & nut-and-bolt suppliers which were local to me. I will add Western Bolt and Engineering supplies to my mental knowledge base for future reference!

My local “Nut, Screws, Washers & Bolts” suppler was taken over by a conglomerate, they calculate shelf space costs into the end product price. If the product sells poorly it may be discontinued or the price rises to pay for its shelf space, folk won’t pay over the odds & so the product is discontinued; a self full fill prophecy.
This happened with my friend John & he retired having built the company from military surplus parts.
I went to get some M10 x 1.25pitch high tensile countersink screws & was met with a blank stare.
“Never stocked them” said the youth behind the now barricaded counter & in shocking English.
I showed him one which came from them & he shrugged.
All the original staff had long gone.
“Anyway they come in boxes of 100.
I now buy off eBay, put up with the wait & having to pay carriage disguised in the price.
Nut, screws, washers & bolts isn’t a newspaper report of an crazed assailant running off after a rape in a laundrette.
