I think I've found the black rubber topped switch thingy in the boot (on the passenger side).
Seems easy enough to push down but how do you pull it out?

The fuel cutoff relay pops up when activated and has an audible click when it's reset (pushed down)
No noise when it's already been reset.

Just checked, window is working with both fuses.

Nope, just been looking at it, can't see any way to pull it up, and it's deffo in the down position as i couldn't push it down or feel any click when doing so.

If its in the down position then there's nowt wrong with it.

It pops up in the event of a collision.

Seems to point to fuel pump.

Check loom to pump and any relays.

Had the battery off all day today while Paula took it back to ATS to get it tested.
(Tested fine btw).

So I put the battery back on tonight.
(after another ride home on the pushbike in the rain - found a nice canal path route rather than the main town and traffic now) and the car started first time...and second time...and third time!!!

Just put my coat on to take it for a quick 20 mile run to see if it is ok, (got break down number, phone, water, coke, mars bar, crisps, etc in case it breaks down - not optimistic here) tried to start it again and it won't start.

It sounds like a loose connection on the HT side of things. Could be anything from the ECU up to the coil packs.

Sorry to be so vague, but I think it's going to be one of those sort of faults.

Spent the morning getting the roof up, removing the inspection cover and getting the car ready for working on and just got a text from the mobile mechanic i had arranged coming out this afternoon to let me know he can't make it.

Tried to call John Norris, Russel and Dave & Kayleigh - all going to voicemail.

Anyone know of another good mobile mech that covers cheshire?

This afternoon I've gone through all the fuses in both the engine bay and the footwell, all ok.
Tried spraying every electrical connector i could find with WD-40.
Unplugged the dual horns I've added.
Pulled the spark plugs out and turned it over. Checking they were sparking by holding the end of the plug against the top of the engine - small blue spark seemed fine. Even replaced them but still no joy.

I'm at a loss now.


Edit: Where's the starter motor and what does it look like?
(last time i had to deal with something like this was over 20 years ago on a Mk1 golf!)

Did you take battery off and put back on Richard, just someone said it seemed to be every time you messed with the battery it seemed to start. Also have you taken the earth lead from the battery that attaches to the slam panel off and cleaned it.

Not sure were the starter motor is but take a look here.
