How did the scammers know that you were expecting an Evri delivery?

Scammer did not know he was expecting delivery. This is play with huge numbers with hit and miss. They send same mail to huge number of email addresses and percentage of sent mails will be a hit. Then if unsuspecting customer bites they win.

The horses have bolted through the open gate now, but in future don't click on the link in the email, instead check the tracking via the companies website, still not 100% foolproof but less likely to be a scam.

To filter out loads of email nonsense and for excellent security I would recommend eset, they filter out spurious email addresses.
I also use duck/duck go as opposed to google as my primary search engine which filters out advertisers.
Leaving facebook I am sure played a part too, its amazing what I dont miss.
A couple of years back my debit card was scanned in a crowded environment, like you I managed to sort it quickly before too much damage was done, a mate recommended the old metal business card holders, that works too.
Small but powerful victory's.

I've used aluminium "RFID blocking" card holders for years   Like these, tried them in a shop and it could not read the cards.

 Such as Eby - 335656746015

Also - brave.com - is a free web browser that does not support ads and includes a TOR tab for private surfing (no traces for Microsoft to use.)

https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 -  oosu10 is an excellent utility for limiting how much MS is watching you.

Faceache is awful.  I tried joining with made up name and spurious Email.  First thing is asked was Do You Know This Person - which just happened to be my daughter!

Thanks everyone!
I don't use normal mainstream SM..I stepped out of the matrix 9 years ago. I use Brave for the reasons Vince says.
@Roverlike..thanks for that explanation as I was wondering how they knew.
The scam email sat directly below the real email in my Inbox and looked identical.
Btw..still waiting for word of delivery of the motor.

Just like the scam phone calls where noone is there. System calls hundreds - occasionally one picks up. Have a chum who uses an aerosol air horn and blasts it down the phone. Hopes to give the fecks a head ache at the least.

The END.

Well not quite. The motor arrived complete with a "repaired" linkage. I planned on using mine so I removed the motor and plugged it in.
SILENCE!
I had a look inside and it was clean as can be.
I did have a thought that my noise was caused by the oilite bush spinning in the circlip so I tried my cover on the new motor and it was silent. My cover was cleaner on the outside so I left it on.
I will strip it at my leisure cos I need to get to the bottom of it.
Right now the car is back on the road!

Started stripping it down. When you drill out the rivets holding the gearbox to the body you have this.

The gear wheel and the drive shaft lift out. There is a washer between the gear and the housing. The shaft runs in two stacked oilite bearings
I tapped them out using an 11mm quarter inch socket. They were perfect.

The armature spindle runs through the bearing in the centre of the body and there is a small circlip holding it in place. You can see it to the left of the worm drive.
Next is the difficult part. The spindle has to be drifted out via the hole where the grub screw fits. Remove that so a bolt can be used to drift the spindle out. My punch wouldn't go through the hole.
CAREFUL! You need a vice to hold the body firmly so you can drift out the spindle whilst trying to hold the bakelite/phenolite board secure so the brushes don't fly apart! It needs quite a whack.
As the shaft passes the bushes they pop out and the springs can fly out!!
You are left with the offending bearing and in my case a very rough sounding one too

That's as far as I have got. Just have to get it out and order another. There is a number on it so no need to pay silly prices.

All good stuff & well documented.
It would be so easy to chuck it & have done. It has however become an object lesson for you, the outcome being a motor on the car & a good replacement.
