Noisy wiper motor!
Took the car out today and the heavens opened. The wiper motor was really noisy and it wasn't the wipers on the screen or the rack.
I put a screwdriver on the motor and it is almost certainly the bearing.
The black armature housing is spotless as is the armature itself. No water or dirt.
I greased the end of the shaft that goes in to the bush in the end of the housing but still the same.
It always seemed noisier than most cars even when I first got.
Is replacing the bearing a doable proposition or do I risk buggering it up??
Also what is the purpose of the black plastic nipple in the side of the casting/gearbox?
Please tell me I can pump oil/grease in there and have a 2 min fix! It looks to be below any electrics.
Yes I know that is like a snowflake in hell.
Rimmers want £220 for a new motor.
Any help or thoughts would be most welcome.

Mine was totally clean inside so I think it is the bearing.
Pain in the ass!!
I have sprayed grease in to the gearbox with a vain hope it droos on to the bearing..which is probably sealed anyway.
The last time I used the wipers I never really noticed anything untowards.
This time you couldn't miss it.

Our cars use a simple switching arrangement, whereas the Land Rover utilises electronics.
On day I’ll find a buckshe unit & work it out, for the general good!(how pompous does that sound).

Be careful with Freelander motor as it is important which version of Freelander motor you are using and at which wiring. Just word of warning.
Trust me if you are giving me warning I am listening...thanks!

There is a complete assembly from seller coopersteve1 on ebay for £41.24 if you fancy bench stripping refurbing etc.
Thank you. That might not be a bad idea. My motor is in great condition apart from what seems to be a bearing and that won't be expensive.
if I practice on a s/h one I should be able to keep my original motor!

By fickering about not knowing what I am doing I found it takes the play out of the armature spindle.
My spindle was wobbly and I did wonder if it was clattering the magnets as it spun but the bush in the end of the spindle should stop that and there were no signs of rubbing.
Anyway, adjusting the grub screw takes the play out of the spindle and stops the wobble.
I'm sure you guys knew that but I only found it by blundering through and sheer luck.
