Are you considering the complexity of a cable system in comparison with a solenoid? You need to source a leaver system, fit it, run a boden cable seamlessly from the cabin to back of the car, up the hinge strut in a way that allows the boot to open & shut reliably & over the life of the car & finaly terminating the cable at the key mech’.
The solenoid system requires a single wire from a 12v source & if you use a lock motor off e-bugger for less than £4-00; a couple of holes will fit that to the lock bracket. And why worry about “electrickery”, without it you’re going to be sat on your drive for a very long time.

Hi, don't think you have understood me, I don't want the lever inside the car, I want to locate it so no-one can see it but it will be accessible from the outside the car, that way if I leave my key anywhere I can enter the boot but must be hidden. just trying to work out where I can locate the leaver, even if the alarm goes off, it is a small price to pay for the convenience of a locked boot you can't get into.

If that’s the case why not get a key cut & fix it somewhere on the car?

the hidden spare key idea is an easy fix if you can locate it somewhere it wont rust away.
Just one point to add -dont keep two fobs close together or they will corrupt the SCU coding

A cable system offers no advantage over an electrical system.

At some point I plan to hid a reed switch somewhere on the car so I can pass a magnet over it to release the boot solenoid, taking it a step further on could have a 6mm jack socket on the underside of the car somewhere so I can apply a charge to the boot solenoid to get over a flat battery.
