I like that....simple and effective, a similar idea can be used for the front bonnet.
I duplicated a key which I keep in my wallet under my id card, its simply a back up key; so I cut all the plastic grip away from the head of the key enabling it to sit nice and flat in my wallet as I hate bulges spoiling the fit on my skinny fit jeans.

And finally! I've just been looking at the e-bay boot kit. It comes with a tiny switch & a bloody great relay; use a bigger better switch rated at an amp or so, the door motor doesn't draw much & the switching is transient. The system for unlatching the lock mec' is inertia as opposed to torque driven , it's the thump that opens it not the push. And as for wiring it; take a live feed from say the fag lighter socket, through your switch, run a cable through the car to the boot lock, attach the motor to the lock frame, arrange a link from the actuator to the mec', connect the blue wire to the live feed & ground the green. There might be other ways of doing it & opinions but this works on three cars faultlessly. Also I would like to thank Bluestreak for his insightful video!

I fitted the same unit, works great, but had to modify the boot catch by putting a hole into to allow the pull rod to attach to it.
Didn't bother fitting the tiny switch and relay.
Instead I run a wire from fuse 1 (main fuse, 60A) with a 10A fuse in line to an industrial rated pushbutton (10A rated) fitted in my centre console, then run from the switch to the engine bay. The wire then was passed through boot loom conduit and up to the solenoid. The return earth wire is just bolted to the boot latch mount, as it is at 0 volt or earth potential.
Easy to wire and works superb.

Here is the hole in the catch
