I looked around facebook before pricing my TF for sale. I should have looked on Autotrader as I clearly under priced it. When I got my 2004 TF 4.5 years ago, the guy wanted £1,175 for it and I did the whole cash in hand, I'll take it now and walking away bit and got it for a grand. A steal and I've loved the 4.5 years of ownership. A change in location and difficulty parking meant it had to go, so I advertised it at £1300 with a view to dropping to £1200.

Then, as per my other thread, my neighbour reversed in to it. So I decided whilst getting quotes to fix it, that I'd drop the price to a grand to see if anyone wanted it as it was. And it sold immediately. I've been paid and it gets collected tomorrow. And the neighbour makes up the difference in price.

So I've made £200 on a car I've done nothing to and had nearly 5 years of fun in it. So the point of this post was to ask if anyone else has noticed that prices are rising?

In hindsight, I wish I had just left it in my parents garage for several years until the kids left home and we'd moved to a place with more parking. It might well have been worth £7k by then!! I'll be sad to see it go. But not so sad when I'm riding the jetski that replaces it :)

Is that not cheap? I feel I've just undersold my 1.8 for £1200 looking at the prices on Autotrader. They are clearly now starting to appreciate...

He's next door, so he can't really do a runner and I doubt he'll be funny. But I suspect it will cost more than he expects. If I tell my insurance company, would it drop him in it if he hadn't told his? In other words, should I tell him first if I decide to involve mine? I guess, either way, I'll have to decide tomorrow so that I have chance to inform them before too much time passes.

Neighbour would prefer to pay and not go through insurance, so to be a good neighbour, I said I'd get a price first. He'll go through insurance if he has too. But its only a drivers door that'll be required now I've seen it in good light.

Anyone got any contacts to supply and fit a VGC startlight silver drivers door and swap the door card, electrics and key around? I draw the line at doing it myself since it wasn't my fault! See attached pic

    thanks!

    Nick

BTW, do I phone my broker (Lancaster) or go direct to my insurance company? Which gets the best results?

It will need a new drivers door as its scratched and creased. I suppose a dentless repair company might be able to fix it, but it would still need a re-spray. Then there is a scratch on the rear panel adjacent to the drivers door. But to be honest, that's it. Do you think they would write it off for that? I know if it were my fault, I could source a drivers door in the right colour and fit it myself. But would they bother with that? I know I was selling it anyway, but it ran faultlessly so it's a bit of a shame...

Alarm has just gone off. Sheepish neighbour at the door. "Sorry, I've just reversed in to your car" :(

I have the Mike Satur Storm cover - the one that covers the glass, but parked here in wet South Devon, there is already mould all over the inside. I'm going to drop the windows an inch or so to let air circulate, but is there any product I can spray to stop it forming in the first place? Or should I get a cover for the cover? An all over cover maybe? But I don't want to damage the paintwork if it flaps about in the wind.

    thanks

    Nick

If you were going to do that, wouldn't you want to flush with a cheap supermarked thinner oil like a 5w30 or even a 0w20 so that the thinner oil brings out all the crud?
