Do you have an affliction or a Land Rover 7 years 7 months ago #171862

I have noticed a few members have land Rover products as well as MG's is it an enthusiam for challenging british cars or is there a sadomasochistic element!
so who is going to confess? I will start.

My name is Andrew I have had a TF135, series 2A, two Mk 1 Freelanders, a Discovery 2 and currently a Range Rover Vogue TD6 and a TF 160.
I have lots of cuts and bruises on my hands have had things in my eyes burt myself, smell slightly of oil and got a garage full of tools.
My neighbour with a Japanese marque has a car in his garage.
I think I need help :woowoo:

Who could ask for a better & more challenging two car garage than a small British sports car & a Land Rover. Can I list myself, my son and a few of our friends;
Mgf, tf & Series 3 Lightweight, my son, Series 2 88” & TF, Dave, a Discovery & tf, Squelch, a Long wheel base series3 & Triumph Spitfire, Rick, a Mgb GT & a 90. Any combination can be found around my house at weekends, invariably being healed. Happy days - - - - - usually.

I've always had "funny old cars"
Some would say that I'm a patron of automotive lost causes, as over the years I've had 3 Landys (still got one), 2 Triumphs (still got both), 1 Jag V12, 2 Mokes and my MGF.
Then when they consider the 6 Alfas, 5 Fiats 3 Volvos , 1 Benz, 6 AMC Ramblers, 2 Inters and too many Chyrslers, Fords and Holdens to bother counting, they are convinced I must be mad......they keep telling me how I should've had Jap Crap and how I'd be so much happier and better off if I had.

Well apart from the fact that Jap Crap bores me absolutely witless, I've always done all my own repairs and I've always paid cash for my cars so I'd say I'm better off than them with their boring Toyota Camerys (even the red ones are beige) , as I'm not paying the finance company for the dubious privilege of saying I own a shiny new car (that's value is plummeting quicker than a 747 with the wings fallen off), I'm not paying exorbitant service costs to the scum bag dealers who employ ignorant spotty oikes at bugger all per hour to service my car, nor am I paying the same scum bag dealer a king's ransom for the Chinese or Thai made "genuine" parts.
Above all else I enjoy it!

Nah this is not an affliction It's a good state of health!

I love my Rangie! He's literally just passed his MOT with no advisories, even after I pulled his engine out and fiddled like no one has before! He costs me almost nothing in parts and effort .......

I don't have one now, but I've had 4 Land Rovers starting in 1973 when I bought an 80 inch series 1 for a year' stay in the Outer Hebrides ( UK). Next was Series 2a LWB for heavy towing followed by a Series 3 Airport able and finishing with a 90. It was replaced by a 10 ton Leyland Roadrunner...(horses were involved). I loved the Roadrunner best and it did as much to diesel gallon as the petrol 90. If only Leyland had stuck to trucks.

After passing my test and writing a few escorts off some years ago....i looked in amazement at a landrover series 2a safari 109......built like a tank..it wasnt the one i bought......i went for a 88series 3......just love all series landrovers...addicted.and regret getting rid of my last series 3........i dont want to get old without owning another.......in mind this time is a light weight, limestone in colour, wide 8 spoke white wheels with spats, winch and love the sound and power of the v8 but may steer towards 200 or 300 tdi engine due to fuel cost......galv chassis with coil springs but still happy with just parabolics

............................................................................................................................like jags, triumphs, mgs of course....although i do now own a korean and a jap car.....they are for reasons like the euro 6 diesel on the mazda is £20 tax and fuel efficient....and the mrs aint that botherd so runs the kia.so to have another solihull product...it may have to be tax exempt as well.....for a while ive been bypassing landrovers....and stopped buying landrover owner mag because i want more use out of my tf........the air portable that i would have would be rag top of course....this is how they are meant to be....fitting a hard top is a option....but i think they look odd with them fitted.....101 forward controls are ace....but a bit to big for what i want........the word rover as been a reacurring name that i like dispite the k series scare mongering and the chassis rot stories of the land rovers.....list of cars i want and guess what...they were made not far away.....in my teens i would have wanted a sas pink panther but the aint practical.....like the smoke launchers on them

landrover series 1
land rover series 2,2a
land rover serie 2b
land rover series 3
land rover airportable series 3
foers ibex
escorts mk1,2 and anything cosworth

jensen intercetor,triumph stag,tr4,tr6,tr7,spitfire,midget,mgbgt,mga,jag,mk2,xj6,xjs...
yes you got the picture......many more i could mention ......the james bond cars

..............oh and i forgot to mention i want a mgzt in trophy blue.......................

.being a diesel engine fitter i love spanners and sockets, red tool boxes..i always stink of oil, diesel and paraffin...and i love the smell of tarmac and wd40.love making lots of noise with chainsaws and like drinking lager...i hate my nieghbours and they hate me.got cuts on my hands, dents on my head and pins in my bones and no hair on my head..but im alive and well and dont grumble (much)........makes me laugh how some people quibble about the rain leaking in on there mg cars, rattling and hard suspention.......these things are laughed at in the landrover world........my series 3 windows only failed to open when the water in the channels they slid in was frozen solid......no starter isues as the starting handle was behind the seat when it was needed........found some ep90 oil in the shed the other day.....i had to have a whiff...has this smell is all around series landrovers innit.

I had a 3.5 Range Rover classic for a while, if time, money, space and 6 MGs didn't get in the way I'd consider another.

Home to black Alfa Romeo 159 3.2 V6 Q4 ,green MGF VVC and red MG Maestro T16.

MG - the friendly marque.

You would have to be nuts to own an MG and a Land Rover!

Here is a pic of my Garage showing my 1997 VVC and my 2004 V6 Hippo :help:

MGTFBluestreak has it on several fronts, the Airportable does look odd with the hard top & it doesn't fit properly, but when it's several degrees below & it's a long way home, a rag top & an asthmatic heater are not a happy combination, even with thermals on. The 200 tdi transforms any series Landy, however my favourite Landy from our “car pool” is Dannys' V8 101. He doesn't have a sports car so didn't get a look in earlier.

I bought a Disco 1 300 Tdi a little over a year ago to keep the two N-reg MGFs company.
