I replaced the hoses to the heater matrix on both of our Fs just over a year ago and posted some information about the job here. There was also an article about the job in a recent issue of FasTForward and MG Driver. A copy of the article can be found here: https://mg-stuff.stlbrits.com/kb/mgf-heater-hoses-pipes-replacement/

The replacement of the hoses through the blanking plate can be done from under the car, but you have to start inside the car as the new hoses get attached to the heater pipe and then pushed through to the rubber blanking plate.

It doesn't look bad to me, I think you tackle it by grinding back to clean metal.

Both of our Fs are very early, 1995 Fs, and came from the factory with ethylene glycol, aka Prestone.

A friend with a 2003 TF switched to ethylene glycol from OAT last summer, no issues to date.

Given that the very early Fs came from the factory with ethylene glycol as coolant, and there was no change to the metallurgy of the coolant system components throughout the the life of the F/TF, there is no reason that ethylene glycol cannot be used in cars that originally had OAT in the coolant system, as long as the coolant system is thoroughly flushed.

The project was very well written up at the time by Practical Classics Magazine - if there is interest, I'll try and put it on this forum. Also, no cutting/welding was involved, just holes and bolts.

Yes, please do post the article if you can.
