Thanks both,

Yeah tyres really can be a very touchy subject indeed, break in my MK1 Focus ST days there were a huge number of tyres available and at least 10x as many opinions, I've not experienced the car enough to feel the difference of tyres yet but definitely didn't want to do any more driving on nearly 15 year old fronts, so the fact the Ultralights came with tyres (all of which have 5mm+) was a bit of a no brainer.
It appears they're quite rare wheels too so feels something of a privilege to be running them.

Good afternoon all, I've just gone outside to jet wash the new wheels (managed to get some Ultralights) which came with tyres (great considering my fronts are stamped 2010!!) I believe all 4 are non directional as I can't see a roll direction arrow and they're not an arrowhead design (Falken Ziex ZE310) which means I can put them on either side of the car right? Even though though there does seem to be some angling to the tread design...

HOWEVER on closer inspection of the tyres already on the car I noticed the fronts are directional (Toyo Proxes T1R) while the rears are not (Toyo Proxes TR1)... Surely they should either all be directional or all be nondirectional right?

Anyone able to shed any light here?
Basically two questions
1) do my falkens need to go on specific sides based on the tread angle?
2) is the Strange Toyo TR1/T1R setup it already has a mistake or is that normal? (In which case do in need directional fronts)

Thanks everyone

Somebody mentioned that if you have the hazard warning light on the instrument cluster (rather than just the indicator symbols) then you don't have the coolant alarm (as that's where they put the coolant warning light) so suspect that's the case, i'll have a grope around under the tank though when i get a moment to double check.

Thanks AP, with that in mind i'll just keep the existing spare if i go for the Ultralights, rather than trying to track down a 5th one, as you say it's literally there to help the car limp to someone who can put it right or get home.

Really enjoying the car, not taking it out while the roads are still 93% salt but the runs i gave it before the snow arrived were great fun and i'm sure as i get more used to it that will only improve. Time will tell of course when MOT time rolls around just how much it needs/doesn't need but we'll cross that bridge when we get there, there's a garage specialising in classics near me and while they're normally more MGB era they've said they're happy to take on a TF and have done so before sop that's a bit easier than having to go further afield.

Getting there, Once the snow cleared i did the first proper deep clean so looking much smarter now with a good coat of wax leaving it all nice and beady, new head unit & rear camera are in, new yellow leather gaitors are in, clearcoat is currently drying on some yellow interior trim in the living room, new tail lights are on with full LEDs, white interior LEDs done and i'm currently figuring out a direction for the wheels, might be going down the ultralight route instead of powder coating the existing ones... amusingly/horrifyingly depending on perspective the front tyres are date coded 2010, so needless to say they're going in the bin.
Admittedly this might all seem a bit "low budget Max Power magazine" but it's worth remembering i was somewhere around 18-21 when i first wanted a TF so it's definitely bringing that side of me out.

So i only recently noticed the tyres are staggered as standard on the TF and that got me thinking.... how does that work with the spare? I mean the spare cannot be both tyre sizes, so does that mean it can only work on one axle and if you get a puncture on the other it's tough?

Also.. if i swap my standard 160 11 spoke alloys for a set of Ultralights, do i need a 5th ultralight as a spare or can i just use the existing 160 11 spoke as a temporary spare?

Thanks as always for the guidance everyone.
