Just moved it to the Pscan section, where you're more likely to get the assistence you require.

Hello helpful people.
I’m struggling to download & get working my Pscan software.
I have endeavours to follow the guide, not only on the download instructions but from the tutorial on YouTube.
As I work through, stages expected didn’t arrive & staged from later in the process cropped up uninvited, including a window from a technology company wanting to make changes to my computer. This might be legitimate but I am not well enough versed in this stuff to make a judgment.
I have used this machine to play with MEM DIAG a while ago but I thought that was all gone.
Any ideas?
Future Technology Devices International Ltd
had just popped up in association with CDM212364_setup.exe
i need for warning of stuff like this!

That is FTDI driver which you need to install as without it yoir PScan will not work. So let it do what it needs to do - install itself on your computer.

Thank you, I hope I haven't frightened it away because I shouted when I saw it, it frightened the dog also, he's been at the top of the garden under the oak tree since.
The dog would probably do better than me!

The chip inside the pscan that communicates with the USB port of your laptop is made by FTDI.
They are a reputable company and provided that you download the driver from their official website you won't have any problems.
With Windows 10 and 11 it often isn't necessary anyway because Microsoft will sometimes install an FTDI driver for you, automatically.
You are safe to install the software and try it out.  When you bought the used pscan you inherited the support that the original owner had.

Thank you, there are people who consider me talented & who have given me money in recompense for that talent, when applied.
I am however acutely aware that loading software has a deleterious effect on me, I can chuck a hunk of metal in the lathe & cut great chunks from it or I can build circuits using SMD components; I shit myself when I’m doing anything on the computer other than order bits off eBay.
Psychological I presume.

I agree.
My confusion began when some fool called the thingy that helps me search for things on a computer an engine.
Whatever it is, it aint an engine.

An update. With a little bit of assistance (quite an amount actually), I have hacked my way through the thicket & find myself on the Elysian fields, with sun bathing the surroundings to bring joy to the heart of any an MG Rover owners.
Blessed is St Paul whose letter to the this owner has helped the scales fall from my eyes & even after all these years of misuse no serious fault codes were noted.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Pscan.
Sorry I might have got a bit carried away there.
Yes it’s now functioning, although I’ve only looked at fault codes, I can return to it when I’ve finished other non car projects.
Thanks all for your encouragement.
