Sound deadening on the cheap!
A rather pointless pic but behind that plastic cover and in the wheel well I used up the last of the roll of flashing.

Are you all saying that using a simple product that is foil backed bitumen or very similar has made a big difference to noise levels in the cab?
I used similar but proprietary product in an MGC (no longer in my ownership) some time ago and I can’t say it made a lot of difference I even added some 6mm foam that was supposed to help reduce noise (the foil stuff to dampen the vibrations and the foam to absorb background sound). Sadly not impressed the outcome.
So how has just the foil done the job?

All I can say is that it really has made a very dramatic difference.
My wife said it was like riding in a tin can when I first got it but even she says it's a vast improvement and will now sit in the passenger seat.
I'm not getting in to the physics of it but before, the suspension on my bumpy road, set up a zing in the car, bumps seemed to just resonate right through the whole car and it felt cheap to be honest.
This bitumen tape has stopped that resonance from starting and as such the whole car feels much quieter. It just does.
I have a music studio at home and I have to soundproof it but that is a totally different concept..soundproofing and sound deadening are two completely different sciences.
Sound deadening stops the noise starting..soundproofing stops whatever noise is left. So really it's not that I have soundproofed it from road noise it's just that the road noise doesn't set off another noise in the panels.
If any of you ever get to drive the car you will notice right away.
I know and realise that there is a much more scientific way of soundproofing a car..because those materials are sold as "soundproofing"..but for around £80 it has been a very worthwhile excersise.

I totally believe it. At one time, many moons ago I bought a Fraud Escart 1300E. This was an awful, rubbish device that, against strong opposition, probably the worse load I junk I've bought. One evening I went swimming and got both ears blocked. The thing was transformed and the ride home was almost pleasant. It got stolen one day and the cops went and found the ***** thing!
