Yes, no blockages were evident David. I ensured both jiggle valves were clear too. Started the car and let it run until warm watching the return pipe flow as it warmed up. After running for ten minutes the expansion tank was normally hot to the touch.

I'll take it for a good run later and see if the radiators hot all over. :-?

That a\ll sounds right.
From there, I wouldn't expect the expansion tank to be anything other than hot for the rest of the drive.

Hey guys you're frightening me. :omg:

Being a fledgling of an MGer anything to do with HGF gives me the screaming abjabs.

What model years are we takling about here. I have something similat attached to my engine which is a Dec 1999 Mk2 1.8mpi.

Should I be investing in a new hose. It looks like the previous owner has tied a cable tie around part of the existing hose !!! :help:

Got any pics UncleTone? If you have no issues yet then it's all good. :)

David, took mine out for almost an hour and, just before it overheated, I noticed that the heater was blowing cold. The tank was warm and up to the top just prior to the cap letting the pressure out.

Have you had a sniff test done, Leigh? It sounds more and more like combustion gases getting into the coolant. Sorry.

Tone, where's the cable tie? Your car will have the same pipework as mine.

No, not yet. That's early hgf signs then? :hgf:

I did hear a lot of gurgling, with no signs of leaking, when I turned it off.

It sounds as if you are getting gas/air into the cooling system. This happened to me and I got similar symptoms heater going cold coolant rising in the expansion tank. realistically you've got to reckon gases are getting past the head gasket.
Time for a call to Russell?

Hi David,

the cable tie is where you have put the drawn one in your photo of the jubilee clip. I'll check tomorrrow to ensure its not just holding the hose in position.

How much is a new hose it might be a good idea to invest in one.

It sounds as if the previous owner has experienced the same problem I have, and put a retaining tie wrap on his replacement pipe.:yesnod:
The new pipe was about £53
