Just making a comment is all. Thought that's what forums were for. And you have responded, which is correct and just.
I don't intend becoming an MP: shouldn't stop me from commenting on them though. There might be reasons why people (like me) who would maybe buy a ticket are not doing so. A one year delay in the original draw date may be a prime one. A non-response on where the ten grand+ collected so far with regard to escrow and interest might be may be another. Good luck to all who have bought tickets, and to those who intend to. If I buy something for twenty quid and the delivery date is June 2011 I would be dischuffed to be told I had to wait another year. And I suspect others would be too. Frankly, we are fortunate that twenty quid is entirely disposable to us: as a smoker I spend that in a couple of days. Without being a patronising git I also know that is a lump of money to some: been there when younger.
Its just that something doesn't sit right with how his whole thing is rolling out.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Well at least the price of an opinion has dropped in the last 20 minutes, make your mind up Paul, I want to go to bed son!

Rich I will collect and sell for you, can I keep anything over the 10k ;)

PQ everyone has the right to comment, no-one is being rude, we have left that to the cult, however your comments are coming across as very hostile to anyone who is daring to express an opinion that is contrare to yours

Now do behave, I thought it was my job to act like a Mod when I am not one, not yours who was, but no longer is :P

I was gonna post this ....

Whether vested interest or passing interest, all opinions are welcome as long as they're thoughtful and fair. :hugs:

As for positivity or negativity in post replies,..... that, I suppose, depends entirely on the answers provided by the man running the draw. ;)

We pride ourselves on freedom of thought and speech here. :broon: :broon:

Transparency and clarity of communication go a long way to allaying concerns and avoiding confrontation.

.... and as for the cambelt change .... I'd expect given John Neweys reputation, he'd be keen to ensure the car leaves his care in the same pristeen high standard that he'd insist on for all others he's dealt with.....

...wouldn't you John? ;)

.... but I guess I'm more subtle than the 'late night gang' .....

I love it when posters give me the night off .

He's flexible. Opinions can differ and also change with the new info presented. I'm sure that many people have refreshed viewpoints now that John has openly posted his plans for the reviewed raffle. It's not ideal or how most of us would have liked it. It's hardly clandestine though. Good luck to the T-Bar winning ticket holder. :broon:

Reading Mr Newey's responses, its Not a Raffle, its a Game of Skill.
And, getting tired of diplomacy, I might say: A Complete Knackers Up. Discuss.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

My F is 11 years old and has done 85000 miles. Should I win then which car is likely to last longer before needing renovation? The problem I would have with the LE is the colour, but I expect I could live with that..

Very hostile? Which comments are those SS? If we want to talk about hostility how about ganging up on John Newey, giving him a good kicking after the competition he started in good faith did not sell all the tickets as quickly as expected, so he has had to delay. It was always stated 850 tickets were to be sold.

I have however seen quite a few hostile comments by people across the forums spreading unfounded rumours and conspiracy theories about a man with a good reputation, who is invited to car shows around the country to display some of the fine MG's he owns. Why are they doing that SS?

Do they believe he has some evil master plan to ruin his name and business so he can retire to the Bahamas with all those £20 notes. :bust: I quite frankly find some of the comments laughable.

I'll leave this thread for all the conspiracy theorist for now. I'll just post a photo of the lucky winner with a huge grin on their face when the car is handed over.

Good luck everyone.

Let's be clear about this, this is in no way an excercise in philanthropy, it's purely commercial and for profit.

What started as a raffle, changed with little or no publicity to a 'competition' and the publicised end date of June 2011 was extended also with little or no publicity.

The new end date, some 12 months behind the original, has only now been decided upon and publicised in the last 24 hours due to the negative publicity provoked by a lack of communication by John's team and a frankly disgraceful display of Stalinist, but sadly typical, moderation on .Cult.

It deliberately obfuscates the matter to accuse posters of attacking John, I see players here playing the ball and not the man in the best traditions of The-T-Bar whilst still excercising their right to 'examine the goods' before purchase.

Whilst it's laudable to defend John, and I don't think anyone here doubts his credentials as an enthusiast or as a promoter of the marque, it doesn't excuse the fact that his team have dropped the ball on this occasion.

You can't blame the customer for that.

We won't lock or delete a thread whilst discussion is above board, adult and transparent. On the rare occasion that this was done here it was necessary to maintain the rules we have set in place. Mostly, basic fair play and keep it clean standards. Having said that, requests to lock and delete threads have been many. We just won't do it. Don't ask. We hold integrity high here.

Threads we did lock, or relocate to the asylum area ie; 'Bongo-gate', may still be read and discussed there on more adult viewing terms. Yes, you do need to have donated an amount to get into that area and the point behind that is to keep the riff raff out of there. Or, should that be in there?

Discuss all you like. Just please put it into english first. My google buttons burning up here.

Sorry Paul I have not seen that on here :-?

John's reputation has not been called into question, from my reading, it seems that people only wanted to find out when the draw was going to be held, a definite date, and that has been clarified by John on this thread :yesnod:

I do wish there was a way of paying by Payal though, I do not like giving my card details to anyone, this is not a slur on John before it is misinterpreted, it is a personal preference, please note personal ..

As for locking or moving the thread, don't be so ridiculous to those that have asked for that, the FACT that John has kindly given us a draw date will I believe help sales, and should any tickets be left on the day I will buy one, or get Mr Watson to buy me one so his numbers go up, but I will still be in with a chance ;)

I was going to buy one with Allan, but the thought of him taking it to bits and making it another "Hybrid" put me off somewhat

It is a new car. Anyone who thinks it isn't doesn't understand how the dubious world of car sales works. You buy a nice new car from a dealer and it could have been standing in a field for a couple of years. Not many come rolling out of the factory with the paint still sticky.
