hopefully I don't have any issues with liner heights.

Yeah that'll be a major ball ache!

Hopefully the liners haven't dropped too much, but if they have then I will probably need to strip it for spares.
I will know tomorrow and I'm keeping everything crossed.

From what I can tell with the block the liners haven't sunk.
If you scrape the cylinder head and remove the old crud a straight edge and a feeler gauge will show any warps. I doubt there will be any because I think it was caught in good time.
My gut feeling is that both the head and block will clean up and a new HG will do the job.
I know it"s easy to say from where I am sitting!

As TA22GT says, check the liners are sitting OK, give the head, valves and block a good clean up, wave the straight edge at it and slap it back together!
I've seen much worse, come good with a little love!

Hi I would be inclined to do a complete drain down, save the coolant filter it then refill the system and bleed thoroughly.

what do you use to filter the coolant, someone suggested coffee filters to me.

I used 2 or 3 pieces of kitchen roll gently pushed into the funnel and changed them once the flow through rate slowed so that the “weight” of liquid over the exit point didn’t burst.
I didn’t have enough coffee filters available.
It also helps if you leave the fluid sediment/particulates to settle overnight.

If you want to clean the crowns I recommend painting Reddex on them to soften the carbon and then scraping off with a piece of bamboo cane cut like a chisel blade and vacuuming the bits. Bamboo is hard enough to apply spot pressure down in the cylinder and soft enough not to damage the crown surface; it can be recut if it wears down.

That doesn't look too bad, as others have said give it all a good clean (get most of it off then into the dishwasher) check for warping, new gasket and stick it back together. Good luck.

If the head checks out with a straight edge and the liners havent dropped i think you will be fine as I was.

You might try “nylon pan scrub”.
I bought a set from Halfords for just such a job. I wrapped the coarse grade around the end of a 1” steel scraper. Then finished off with the finer grade.
Yes, it took some effort but it did the job.
I’m sure there might be a more appropriate grade of “pan scub” but I have yet to locate it even though I know it exists.
