MG TF 2004/2005 OEM Low Coolant Alarm - Wiring diagram, Owners Manual Page

Hello Roverlike, I have a 80th anniversary model. I have the necessary wiring with appropriate correct connector as well as the dashboard light. Today a friend let me use a spare coolant expansion tank with a factory fitted sensor that he'd taken off a car. We connected it up to the existing wiring, obviously empty no coolant, with the float pushed to the bottom and ignition in 11 position . We waited well over 35 minutes. Nothing.
Please could you explain what I'd need to do to now make the low coolant warning system work ?

First you need to check what is your VIN number. Is it above RD 634869? Is it below RD 632424?

Second you need to check which version of BCU unit you have: earlier YWC001540 or later YWC001541. If you have earlier version of BCU you cannot get low coolant alarm since it is not supported on that version of BCU.

The VIN is 63347.

Is it possible to identify which BCU the car has WITHOUT having to take it out? Could I see the number by taking off the panel in the passenger footwell and look behind the centre console ?

You can try to do the way you suggested. Success will depend how BCU is placed and how much other things hide label on which nunber is written.

Thanks for getting back Roverlike, I appreciate your help. I'll have a look over the next couple of days and see what I find.

If you visit Dieters web site, there is a section covering this modification. I noticed it last evening whilst checking some information.
His site is awash with interest material; during the early months of f ownership, I found it a constant companion, it lacked nothing I required for any job.
You might not learn anything new by visiting it, other than the “blockbuster, multisyllabic glottal stopped” German words for simple objects.
My opinion only, I’m just managing my native language at the latter end of my life.

When I was looking for that information I probably had the footwell panel off too. But I used a mirror and took an image looking at the mirror showing the necessary nomenclature. I then took that image and edited it using MS paint to both straighten it up and then flip it over to read as it should.
Worked for me, worth a try?

Hello Roverlike,  I managed to access the BCU. Attached is a photo. As you'll see the part number is YWC 001600.. So actually a higher number than the later version you said would allow the alarm to work. So given its later do you think it will work ?

On your picture I see SRS/airbag unit, and number is written on yellow label. You need to find Pektron SCU unit which is black, number is on white label and is placed above SRS unit. SRS unit is bolted to tunnel.
