OK so here's the saga..

Ram brackets were an awful fit... but a bit of grinding here and there and they were on. The rear bulkhead was only very slightly rusted along its base which I am happy about though, and now it's all sorted!

So today I decided to get the main rams and pump in place. Fitted support brackets etc, dismantled more of the centre tunnel and cut hole for the ram pipes... all going brilliantly. Rams all fitted, all bolts lined up. Brackets on rams great.. then BUGGER! Somehow the balljoints on the top of the bloody rams are MISSING!!

and this is what should be there!

I checked all the parts were in the box that were on the manual before starting, and everything seemed to be there - but who would have thought someone would have taken off the balljoints?! Anyway now the car is stuck with 3/4 of an electric roof and I am rather peeved to say the least!

I have messaged the seller as the ad did say:

Convert you hood to a power hood
Genuine mg parts
Contains everything to convert your hood to electric

Plus it said it was new - which it was (or at least appeared to be as it was sealed!).

So - if I don't get any joy with the seller, does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get a couple of balljoints to fit these rams? Presume there are amillion different sizes too!

cant tell by the pictures............but are the ball joints anywhere near the size of the ones found connected to telescopic rams on car tailgates....

They seem quite large - but thinking of it I can try one from my Range Rover.. good idea!

Do I just measure the diameter of the 'hole' in the ball housing and get a ball as close to that? The seller says he doesn't have them as he never even opened the box as his F was gone before he got orund to it.

I noticed there were other ball joints on the roof canopy mechanism itself...........are they the same size?

No these are bigger than the ones holding the little adjuster arm.... I guess I'll measure the opening and then buy a couple around that size and try!

Does the socket screw off the top of the ram?

If so, then this may give you 2 options.

1. Remove the socket and take it to a suitable fittings place and they will advise you.
2. Get a matching ball and socket and fit them to the ram and fitting.

Invalid or non-existent item ID.UPDATE:

Measured the 'hole' and it is between 12mm and 13mm depending on which ruler i use! LOL I can only find 13mm balls (no 12mm listed anywhere on the web) so I assume it's 13mm I need (fingers crossed).

I ordered these today to come tomorrow - here's hoping!:

Also if this works I will also look to see if the ram tops come off (as sugggested previously) and change them to these:

Assuming I can get the right size - I think it would give a lot less flex on the joint and stop the bracket warping as much - which I know is a potential issue with the power hood.
