stripped paint of and polished up looks a lot better
not perfect but lot cheaper than buying one :woohoo:

Did the same with mine but you will need to give it a couple of coats of polyurethane or varnish as the surface will oxidize within a week or so.

I took paint of with p240 sandpaper then i rubbed it with wet n dry p400 p600 p800 n then p1200 takes a while lol then polished up using autosol

I polished Meg's petrol surround quite a while ago now - definitely needs a coat of clear acrylic as it tarnishes and then because the tarnish gets inside the 'allen bolt' area it looks manky - so I re-polished it before fitting it to Felix and gave it a coat.

I also polished the gear surround and scratched gear knob few months back:

wont be putting lacquer on it as through time it will peel unless u use the proper grade of lacquer which is quite expensive
i will just keep it polished up with autosol each week

Hi , i did the same with mine then i put varnish on it ,and it still looks shinney 6 months on with know flacking , plus its a lot cheaper than buying one.
