Our cap surround was tatty, due to MGR policy of not seeming to prime anything before painting. I considered machine buffing the surround, but ended up stripping, priming and spraying silver. The one departure from original was that I sprayed the pretendy Allen bolts black, which contrast well IMO.

The disadvantages of weekly polishing would be, again, IMO:
Polish would get in the hex heads of the pretendy bolts.
Polish would stain the vinyl centre over time with white residue.
Do I want to do this every week, especially through winter? :nonod:

Quality lacquer isn't dear and lasts well.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..
