STARTER BUTTON FITTING 11 years 7 months ago #71475

Can anyone help me please. I have fitted a remote starter button (in the cigar lighter hole) and need to know which two wires to connect to at the ignition barrel . I have so far found conflicting information!!

1st said use the Red/White and Purple/Brown (which my MGF does not have)

2nd said use Red/White and Brown/White (me no got this either)

3rd said use the Black and the White one that is live when the key is at position 2! I have two whites, one with a red stripe, and both are live with the ignition switch at zero , one and two positions. The black one isonly live when the key is turned to position 3 (crank)

Help Help which ones do i use  :help: :help: :help:

I have a starter button that came with all Japanese instructions. Even the wire colours were shown with Japanese characters. Not being an electronics whiz and not wanting to start cutting wires in the harness without proper information I have consigned it to the "Projects that will probably never happen" box.

Sorry I can't help Bryan! :nonod:

Your fitting it through a relay though right?

If you simply chop the trigger wire and route it through your push button it will probably melt..

Which push button starter have you got?

Unless its got a very high rating it will need a relay

...surely by extending the circuit normally operated by the ignition switch (which is a low current relay energising circuit) to the new starter button I cannot see why there would be a high current present at the new button?
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Look at the size of the cables connected to ignition switch. Being that large denotes high current

All of the push button starters I've fitted have gone through a relay

But hey.... Could be wrong

DD, I could be wrong too!!

Usually the start circuit just operates the pre-engage solenoid , so start current is carried by the heavy duty cabling to starter motor etc. I would suspect that the heavier cables are switched feeds for ignition controlled circuits.

When i have a min I will check out the circuit diags.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

The crank position should operate a start relay which then operates the starter solenoid, which operates the starter motor itself.

The ignition switch doesn't handle large currents for the starter circuit.

If I was to fit a simple push button switch, I would take a feed from 2a (ignition) to the crank position.

This means you can only use the button when the ignition is turned on and should turn the starter motor as long as you have your finger on the button.

If the trigger wire from the ignition barrel/ start button goes to a relay that is already on the car thn happy days

Anyone looking to buy a push button starter... Personally I'd buy the micro switch type.. For reliability

Or buy a genuine Honda S2000 one off e bay
