Mgr produced the limited edition Trophy 160, to pass the noise level tests they were fitted with standard exhausts the Trophy exhaust went to the dealers in the boot.
The second batch was produced under BMW's ownership because the originals sold so well, and had extras like ABS and spare wheels that weren't included in the original. The original was also supposed to have Janspeed work on the engine.
Not bad David, however.
The Trophy 160 was produced in 2001, and the P4 had taken over in 2000, BMW were already off the scene. Andrew Philips (Scarlet Fever) keeps getting this wrong. I have one of the first batch and the VIN plate says MG Rover Group, a BMW era car says Rover Group on the VIN plate.
I believe the orange alloy spare wheel was an option on the second batch (as was a larger steel spare that would fit over the front brakes on the first), however another difference was that the exhaust was fitted from the factory and was identical to the TF exhaust as it had the valve that blocked one of the tailpipes until you gave it some beans. This made it comply with the drive by noise regulations, which as you correctly state was the reason the exhaust on the first batch was in the boot.
Lastly the differences in the second batch were because MGR were using the Trophy 160 as a development car for the upcoming MG TF 160, after they found that the Trophy was so popular, they decided to make the 160 engine the standard for the TF VVC and that would include "sports pack 2" (the bigger brakes and revised 11 spoke wheels), as well as this, the ABS system was tweaked slightly, as you mentioned, to accommodate the AP brakes.
Anyway, I believe that Bryan has asked Paul (PQD) to set a question.
