New Wheels are On! 12 years 1 month ago #43990

After a drawn out process I finally got my new (to me) Square Spoke Wheels on Andy my MGF :woohoo:
General Lee had them up for sale on the forum and I was able to twist his arm to change them
from "Pick up Only" to "Will hunt down boxes, pack carefully, find a great rate, and ship halfway around the world".
Thanks Mate!
Once the wheels got here I gave them a good cleaning, removed some corrosion and followed with a coat of zinc-chromate primer. Then came 3 coats of Duplicolour metal flake silver wheel paint and 3 coats of clear.
There was a letdown yesterday when the tyre fitter damaged the fresh paint on 3 of the wheels while balancing them. Serves me right for praising him on Jan's damaged wheel thread! :slapme:
I spent a few hours today repairing the damage (around the center hole). Fortunately the paint was still fresh and the clear topcoats helped it blend together so for anything but a close inspection it's not an issue.
The wheels also got a snazzy new set of center caps from Capricorn One which really sets them off.
This afternoon I mounted the wheels and took the Andy for a run. It sure is nice to have the Toyos on again, the F is nice and smooth, tracks like an arrow and handles well once again! :broon:

I couldn't resist one of these! (also from Capricorn One)

I just went for standard valves. I'm not that trendy!

I have a lowering pin kit that should complete the look
I'm looking forward to getting the box of bits that has been in my way
all winter onto the car.
I just have to get it through the Aircare (emissions) re-test first and the
parts for that should be here in a week or so.

Have to say I love square spokes and think they're THE best looking wheel on the F.... Hence why I got them on Meg. OOh now they almost look like sisters!

They look great on yours too!

Looking great! I love the square spokes too. We have a set of 15" square spokes with the winter tyres on, and 16" Anniversary hairpins with the summer tyres on.
