Three weeks in ! 12 years 2 months ago #43566

Well three weeks into tf ownership and its really growing on me ! Getting good at checking oil and driving with one eye on the temp gauge lol Sure the paranoia will ease with time.I have one worry though sometimes getting a strange squeek from o/s/r wheel more when cornering now im more of a bufty than a tinkerer (is that a real word ?)but im thinking wheel bearing although the discs are a bit coroded so any thoughts would be welcome Cheers

Best thing to do is jack up the front and check for play in the bearing.

Grip the wheel top and bottom and see if there is any play (there shouldn't be)
gripping the wheel side to side you can see if there is any play in the track rod ends.

Now you have the wheel off the ground you can take a look at the other parts and bushes and see the condition and give the wheel a spin and see if you can make it 'squeak'.

If you are not happy checking things yourself perhaps there is someone in/near Chelmsford who can give you a second opinion or recommend a garage. When was the MOT done?

I had a wheel bearing prob.

Watch this:

I paid for my local garage to sort it. So far so good. It was a cheap hob of £55 so who knows how long it will last?

I would start with the checks though.

I've learned a lot about the TF since joining here but i couldnt really tackle a wheel bearing change so it was off to my local garage.

Next thing on my growing list of things to do is, fit new heater controls, fix warm heater, sort out engine management light, fit boot popper, upgrade alarm sensor... An so on.

Are your nipples greased? ;)
Also the rear brake pads have a wear indicator that starts to squeel when the inner pad is low.

If the discs are in poor shape a rust ring may have formed around the disc causing the squeak.
If that's what it is you simply put a bevel around the edge of pad for clearance.
Of course, the proper way to do it would be replace the discs and pads. :yesnod:

It could also be the pad backing plate running in the caliper in which case a thin coat of Copaslip
on the back of the pad should do the trick.

Hmmmmmmmmm I have noticed a bit of a squeal when braking slowly at low speeds

I had new discs and pads put on all round 3/4k miles ago when I first got her as the ones on looked like this :omg:

Now they look like this

Could they need changing :-?

Welcome to the forum :woohoo: You wont find a better MG forum than this one for sound expert advice, instant response, great banter, and a superb MG quiz. :woohoo:

If we cant answer you question, we know someone who can, :yesnod: the MGFs and TF are quite quirky and have some weird and wonderful faults from time to time, so if you are unsure about anything at all, please ask before fiddling.

MG people are special (except a few!)
