Worth checking coil pack connections or if you have a spare substitute for a known good one

If it came on recently and suddenly it could be a tank of dodgy fuel.
On ours, a misfire was cured by new plugs and leads. The fault went away so the coil packs were ok.
There are two packs and two leads: cheaper to inspect/ swap these out first.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Wot He said.

if it happens when you try to accelerate from low speed, I found the connections under the coilpacks were corroded.

Many faults have to be eliminated by substitution: as David A says there is a tendency for crap and corrosion to build up at the plug end of the coil pack and HT lead. If you are changing the plugs then the coil packs have to come out anyway. There is a rubber shroud at the plug end of the pack: ease this off and check and clean the connection.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Burnley? BURNLEY?????

That's a step too far! I'm a Yorkshire lad. :yesnod:

Any competent garage should be able to do this: the only difference between a conventional car regards plug, pack and lead change is removing the engine cover: if they're not familiar there are how-to's on here.
It really is a simple job if you know a trustworthy tinkerer. I'm a bit far else I'd help out: someone nearer may be able to help.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

One of the mobile mechanics will be able to sort you out. It will probably cost you less than a garage and you know they are good. I always recommend Russell(www.MGRoversolutions.com) or Jon Norris(Rough Luck Racing)

Excellent point David, but it seems that sometimes the MM are fully booked and if its a bad misfire it needs sorting ASAP was my thinking. Another advantage of an MM would be a good diagnosis beforehand I guess.
