  • A Lotus Elise S1 does not have electric door locks, which is why an EKA code cannot be used and is therefore never delivered with the car.

When the alarm system is the standard Rover setup, a std. rover remote is delivered that opens / closes the system.

If Cobra setup, the Cobra alarm has its own immobilizer circuit and the Rover 5AS module is set to no automatic immobilise. This is done using a Rover Testbook but never had one in my hands though.

By using a Rover Testbook it should be possible to program new EKA codes and remote controls (as well as most importantly) change the time interval for automatic immobilising again.
It is this time interval that can be set to infinity and thereby the 5AS start circuit is deactivated and the Cobra alarm does the job with its own remote controls.

I have disconnected the power to my Elise S1 with Cobra alarm many times and every time the Cobra immobilizer has worked fine and the Rover 5AS alarm has remained disable.

However, it is a known problem that the Rover alarm system can jump back to active stage if you are very unlucky. This causes major problems for an Elise S1 owner with a Cobra alarm, as you have neither EKA options nor a Rover remote control. The only option here is the Rover Testbook, which is on the same level as finding the horn of a unicorn.

That is why this feature will make a difference in Pscan.

    Please:
Can anyone confirm that the Rover Testbook has the option to set the time interval for automatic connection of the 5AS module to infinity?

  • Correct

As standard setup, the Elise use the Rover MGF setup.

On top of this, (and most Elise S1) has an additional Cobra alarm installed. When this is the case, the Rover alarm system = 5AS has to but in to af non automatic alarming state.

    Se my mail.

  • I believe the 5AS module is identical for the MGF and Lotus Elise S1.

Have done a couple of checks on some Lotus Elise 5AS spare modules.
It says Lucas (A) and YWC105330, next to this is a LOTUS sticker with part no. B111M0074K. This is a 433 Hz system.
Be aware that there are many variants of this, all of which have different letters A – L (mainly remote update and 315 Hz system)

Have also spoken with a LOTUS S1 specialist who has confirmed this assumption.

    He wrote.
As far as I know there are some slight variations/revisions of the 5AS even on various Rover models (mostly hardware though), but the Elise version is not 'special' in any case. Lotus bought the complete engine/gearbox+ECU+5AS+engine-wiring from Rover and did not modify them in any way.

You can use the normal Rover test-book to do all the functions that are possible on the MEMS and 5AS on the S1.

I would expect any additional Pscan functions to work on S1 Elise exactly like they would on an MGF.

Looking forward to this function hopefully also being included in the Pscan equipment

  • Many thanks for the quick response.

Is this feature something that could be considered added to Pscan in the future.

Have several indications that this feature could be valuable to Lotus Elise S1 (and Rover K) customers. As this will give access to replace the 5AS module when factory installed Cobra Alarm.

Rover Testbook T4 is becoming very hard to find and especially people who can use this equipment.

  • Kristian created a new forum post in pscan.uk diagnostic tool forum
    Hi

Have a lotus elise s1 with 5AS and a cobra alarm.

For this to work, the 5AS module must be set to infinity /disable the passive immobiliser

This can be done using the Rover test tool but have Pscan this feature as well ?

Of cause this only can be done if 5AS module is disarmed by a working transmitter.
