Well, Paul (Kameleon) and Derek (derek_bartram) turned up at the purveyor of fine glass fibre panels this morning.

Apparently he was still asleep when they turned up, after an early morning (5am) stint on another project he is working on.

So they went for a McD breakfast and gave him time to get himself together.

The general view of the bonnet is that it is very well made, solid, and weighs a fraction of the original MG steel bonnet (weighs around 7 kilos). The fit is good with the shut lines being spot on and the finish is first class.

Paul was kind enough to take his TF over for the trial fit. He removed his bonnet and spare weel. The spare will fit, but not when the ducting has been added.

Here he is getting the car ready.

The new bonnet was lifted into place

and adjusted to suit

and, as you can see, the fit is pretty damn good.

I haven't seen it in the flesh yet, but the finish looks awesome so far.

It's here.......

After a 800 mile return trip in 33 hrs I now have the first bonnet out of production, and I'm pretty impressed.

I did a rough weighing of the bonnets on the home scales and the original bonnet weighed in at 11 Kg. The fibreglass bonnet weighed in at 5.5 Kg.
These are bathroom scale accuracies, but show that the new bonnet, without fixings, comes in at half the weight of the original unvented bonnet.

I fitted the bonnet today, including hinges and catch, adjusted and found the fit to be spot on.

Here are some pics for you.

I marked off where the ducting would come to with some duct tape, to show how much under bonnet space will be lost.

I still plan to design it so that a full spare wheel will fit.

And as you can see, the fit is good.

Cheers.

This one was the first off the mold.

The rest will be produced at around 1 - 2 a month and there are 7 people on the books, so after that we will see what we can do.

I have the original back, but it got damaged while making the mold. I was going to ebay it, but it might just get scrapped now.

I'll be getting this one sprayed up as soon as I can.
