Engine fan adjustment - MGTF 2009 LE500
Hi All
It seems the car I own may have a KMaps remap. I suspected this as I previously owned a 2004 135 TF and the LE500 performance was much improved.
I noticed the engine fan came on a lot more on the LE500 and an OBD11 scan showed a checksum error.
I posted this issue on the MG-Rover forum and a member responded asking if I’d had a KMaps remap as he and 2 other LE500 owners had exactly the same issue with the fan and checksum error following their KMaps remap.
I can live with the checksum error as it doesn’t seem to affect anything, but my question is, can PScan be used to change the engine fan settings to ‘normalise’ it?
PS Apparently KMaps deny that these problems exist.

The control of the fans is in the firmware or maps of the ECU which is not something that pscan can alter.
Therefore you would need a remap to sort it out.
It might be worth having a chat with SAWS tuning if you want an alternative to Kmaps.

Can pscan tell me if a SAWS modified map has been downloaded?
I see on their website screen dumps indicating how to extract a file, forward it by email, await the modified map and then install it to the car. A file is shown (on their screen dumps) just below the standard file applications.
But I doubt that would be visible if the car had changed hands and a new Pscan obtained by the new owner.
But would Pscan be able to see if the car had had a new modified file download to it in the past?
Any ideas please?

Without downloading the map and examining it, I do not see how PScan could "see" what kind of map is within engine ECU. There is no way to "ask" the map info what it is.

That’s more or less what I was expecting but am still curious. Inspecting the information on SAWS website and in particular the “screen dump” images they post for the means to upload the new file I see an ICON under tuning within Pscan called SAWS tuning.
So is that a standard feature within Pscan or an additional application added to Pscan firmware/software when modifying the map as forwarded by post/email?
If a standard feature within Pscan it doesn’t confirm anything. But on the other hand if it is seen when deploying a new Pscan it might indicate that a revised map is in operation. Equally if that feature is added when deploying the map but not visible when using a new standard Pscan it again tells me nothing. I guess I’ll never know (which in part is what I need to establish - for insurance purposes).

I can read the maps and firmware on the normal Motorola MEMS3 but I think that the LE500 uses a different Continental ECU.
If someone has a spare Continental ECU that I could borrow then I could probably crack it.

A day or so ago I connected pscan to the data pott in the car and followed the route that took me to the SAWS toolbar.
Clearly if I followed the instructions offered by SAWS I suspect that I would have been able to extract what SAWS requires.
As I had no intention of doing that (at least not at the moment) I went no further.
On going “back” via the tool/icon I did notice a reference to what I think is the map but could equally be something else.
I do not use the iPad to deploy Pscan but will have a look on my other machine for the screen dump taken at the time.
i had been my hope that SAWS might have responded to a note I sent over the weekend but so far no reply.

Posted 1 year 1 month ago #216109right now pscan doesn't support reading or writing maps on the Continental ECUs (as used on LE500) so the SAWS instructions for using pscan wouldn't work. I believe that SAWS can map them but (at least of the time being) you would have to deal with them directly without using pscanA day or so ago I connected pscan to the data pott in the car and followed the route that took me to the SAWS toolbar.

A little progress.
There was a job lot of Continental ECUs on ebay so I grabbed them.
My plan (without making promises) is to extend pscan to do remapping of these as well as the UK made cars.
As I will have stock of these it opens the possiblity of cloning these for you folks so that you can have a stock ECU and a mapped ECU so that you can play with them and it might aid fault finding if you suspect that a map is causing problems.

Well, here is the screen dump from my car via Pscan. Anyone know what this might indicate if anything?

I believe that tuning them doesn't change the map or firmware IDs
Also, I thought that the LE500 ECUs are NNN000830
