Drilled a hole in the fuel tank 3 years 10 months ago #193596

Epoxy putty is NOT suitable for HDPE, especialy a fuel tank.

It may be stronger than HDPE, but it has to bond to it to be any good.

Only specialist adhesives and preperation will bond to HDPE. They sort of disolve the surface to produce a chemical welding.

Update:

I moulded a plug from HDPE using the correct diameter for the hole

I then welded it onto the tank using a soldering iron

It’s not pretty, but I’m confident of the seal

Thanks for all your help folks

Just to be clear, Plastic Padding is NOT epoxy - it is polyester and definitely will not adhere to polypropylene!
