Radio code 7 years 2 weeks ago #177116

I've just bought a 1997 F , great fun car but I don't know the correct way to enter the radio code. I have the code, just not the correct way to enter it. The unit is an original MG badged radio / cassette player with 10 stacker Sony CD player (weird combo!)

Can anyone tell me how to enter the code please?

Hi and welcome.

Hope this helps.

"Switch on the radio, code appears in display.
Press either tuning button to select the first digit of the code then press preset 1 button to store the first digit in the unit memory.
Use the same procedure for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th code numbers.

If correct code has been entered then a double beep will sound and you can listen to your cassettes.

If you muck it up then it'll say wait in the display and you have to leave the unit on, 2 mins for the first time then 4 then 8 then 16 until you lose the will to live and go to halfords for a new radio!!

Post some pictures of your car.

We like pictures. :broon:

Hi and welcome to the forum

IIRC digit one is entered on button 1, digit 2 on button 2 etc.

Many thanks to the members who have replied with ideas.

Unfortunately, the radio still doesn't understand me.

It's a Eurovox 8790 and even the Eurovox web site doesn't recognise it or offer a manual for it, so I suspect it will have a limited future in my car.

If I do find out how to enter the code, I'll be sure to share it with the forum in case anyone else needs it.

Attachments include a photo of the head unit, and a pic of the car (even without music it's still a whole lot of fun - especially when people realise it's driven by a 65 year old who should know better).

Thanks again all.

That's the same setup my car had.......I turfed it all out, without even trying to turn it on. I think that set up was standard fare for Oz spec cars.

I fitted a Kenwood DAB+ head unit and some Alpine speakers instead.
Very happy with the result.

I see by the rego in the pic your in WA, :welcome: welcome to the Tbar from a fellow Aussie, I'm in Vic.

Thanks Cobber. I was reluctantly coming to the same conclusion but didn't know if wind noise would make a good (ie new generation) stereo a bit of an overkill. Agree about Alpine speakers, I've got some in my Falcon.

Good to make contact with another Aussie MG owner - have a good one????

Feel a bit silly but problem caused by wrong code from previous owner. Bought new code from Go-Tech, radio works. Go-Tech service excellent and web site very useful. For anyone else struggling, when you have the correct code, turn on ignition, see 1 (for first attempt) in display, then ignore display (!!). Starting from left number in code, press preset button to match each number in code ie if code is 326413, press preset 3 then press preset 2 then preset 6 etc. If you fail three attempts, display shows ---- and you have a minimum of 1 hour before you can try again.

Now all I have to do is work out why the volume goes down when I turn it up .... ???? Cobber, I think my next RDO will be spent getting a new system installed.

Thanks again to all for keeping me sane in my quest for some beautiful noise
