Well my car is now 12 years old and has got 70K on the clock, the original exhaust has just begun to show signs of failure, in that the flexi is starting to blow a little. I must say that the back box is still reasonably ok for a car this age.
So time to replace the flexi, but I may just opt for a full stainless system while I am at it, then its done....for good!
I am contemplating trying out a local exhaust specialist in Leek, Staffs, who builds systems up to suit the car, I am looking at about £450 for the back box, cat and downpipe/flexi. With that I get a choice of tailpipe finishers too, so maybe quads.
If not, then the TT exhaust does look good, and I know Bitz has them on the shelf.
What do you guys think on these options, or do you recommend another system, in stainless with performance enhancing flow!

Website of the Leek exhaust specialist is here, http://www.silver-systems.co.uk/ it has some fine examples of their work in the gallery section....

Hi Sundance I have an mgoc ss sports back box on my TF 160. It's not the loudest of sounds but gives off a nice rumble at tick over and a nice range of noise throughout the rev range. Also If you are on a motorway it settles to a nice back ground noise. So far I've not regretted the choice I made and the quality is top notch. I also get a few pops on the overrun at low revs. :broon

I know TTs have their supporters and I applaud Neil for his enterprise in getting these produced, but in my opinion they are not an option. They are very loud and drone at constant motorway speeds.
They also have an issue whereby one tailpipe sucks and the other blows... :slapme:

Having heard the various TT options on numerous car meets, It's a no from me.

The above exhaust or a Daytona would be my choice. :yesnod:

My view is the MGOC SS assembly, it has the right note when giving it the beans and quiet / subtle when rolling around town ( also with a 5am start and not trying to wake the neighbours). Build quality was very good and fitted like a dream - always use the CAT saver nuts to save pain in the future. :broon:

Even buying stainless in time the flexi will fail.I tried a stainless flexi and it made my Scorpion exhaust sound awful(think of a bee hive stuck in the pipe).
I have an original MG Rover front pipe and a Scorpion and am very happy with the set up.
I tried a TT it was to loud.
I've also had a Toyo sports exhaust on my last car which made a lovely noise but the hanges did break off(had it repaired by a friend).I believe the new ones from toyo are better made the hangers should be welded to the sides.

Mine has.a Double S system made by the company of that name based in Somerset. I have a feeling that it's the same one as sold by MGOC but I'm not 100% certain. It certainly looks very similar.

It is quiet at low revs but has a nice throaty sound at wider throttle openings. The only downside is a bit of a boom at about 3000rpm when under load, going up a hill for example.

Overall though, very pleased with it.

Double S do make the back box also supplied by the MGOC. I have one (from the MGOC) and really like it. Very well made and not too mid-life crisis/second childhood. I notice that Roger Parker (in his Haynes book) thought that the standard exhaust manifold was hard to beat and most of the s/s aftermarket ones he had seen offered less performance. Of course Double S also make a manifold which I'm sure will be very good but last time I looked it was about £700!!

If you go down the Double S/MGOC route, you have the choice of a 'standard' back box or the Supersports. The Supersports is the performance version and the one I have. There is no price differential but the Supersports does away with the strap (it's much smaller). The only thing I would say against the Supersports is that it's noisy with a hard top fitted (resonates around 70 mph). I solved this by selling the hard top which paid for the back box.

I've the TT Mk 7 with standard downpipe and cat. Being an antisocial character, I like the noise and don't find it droning on the motorway. (And I'm doing 600 miles a week, so get plenty of time to become irritated.)
Fit was a doddle and the Kmaps remap was done to make the most of the exhaust and Piper panel filter.
Where I do agree with other comments is that the n/s exhaust sucks air in and stays clean, the o/s handles all the gasses and gets sooty. It looks strange - and to get through the MOT you need to stuff a rag into the n/s exhaust to normalise readings.
The other issue is that even though it's 'stainless', after only 6 months I already have rust spots on bits of it.
I'd look elsewhere if buying another.
P.s. The noise does have the advantage that The Mad Woman can hear me and get my bath run and G&T ready without me having to 'phone ahead.

Another vote for the MGOC stainless, I bought the Supersport version, it's only slightly louder than standard at cruising speeds, only downside is some resonance when de-cellerating above 3000rpm.. the flexy pipe disintegrated when I took the old box off, so that got replaced at the same time.
