Electrics? 9 years 3 months ago #155782

Hi All,

I (and my Italian mechanic)are still struggling to rectify a puzzling electrical fault. The following are not operating:

LH side light, LH rear light, number plate light, radio/CD, all instrument lights.

Everything else electrics -wise is fine, all fuses and earths have been checked - again fine and the notorious loom in the boot is intact.

Are those components linked in any way?

Any clues/ideas much appreciated.

As ever many thanks

Elona.

I had the exact same problem, everytime i changed a fuse it just went again. Turned out it was a wire on the back of the cd player that had slightly sheared causing it to blow the fuse all the time.

Have you checked every fuse? the ones under the steering wheel? thats where my one kept going too. As soon as you turned the lights on the fuse went straight away. Had you been doing anything to the car before it happened?

When you say the boot hinge loom is fine, have you opened it up and examined the wires? The copper wires can break inside the plastic casing making it very difficult to see any broken wire.
If all the fuses are fine (in under bonnet fusebox and under steering wheel fusebox) I would put my money on broken wires in the boot hinge loom or behind the stereo. :yesnod:

It will be a short to the body somewhere look for frayed cables wherever there is movement even in the bulkhead

Steve,

Apologies for not replying earlier- you were 100% correct, frayed wire shorting on body.
