Hi, help needed please
I am having a problem with my MGF 1.8i 2000 year. When cold it starts instantly, if I go for a drive and stop the engine, like getting petrol, it will not start, if after several goes it starts it runs fast as if on a cold start it will then splutter for a while. On the other hand if I leave it for 20 minutes or so it's back to normal. Could this be the engine coolant sensor and if it is would this stop the fan coming on?

The coolant temp sensor problem could give those symptoms, if the ecu thinks the engine is cold it will over-fuel when the engine is hot. It would also not start the fan when it should.

I might have a spare sensor in the shed for you Tony (I stripped an F few years back and have a shed full of bits I keep meaning to eBay!) - which one is it David?

Brown one.

Thanks very much, but I have only just seen your offer and I have already ordered one on eBay.
I know my way around Midgets and MGBs but these MGFs a bit more complicated so I have a lot to learn.
