Spraying matt black paint should be OK but if you apply black renovo to the inside it WILL leach through and your hood WILL appear to have black stitching!
Car dealers simply spray them with matt black paint!
I'm thinking I can only 'clean' or cover the inside of my red hood in case the colour leaks through to the outside?
Could you not cut the material to go up to the bars and leave them uncovered? So it kind of tucks under the edge of the bars?I just find that I get a few wrinkles where the webbing moves independently from the roof material. Not a biggie, but the felt would probably stay smoother if it were under the webbing.
edit:- Just re-read what you actually asked. The material has to go over the bars of the frame, but can go over or under the webbing.
