What do we think? Feasible?

Take a non SRS airbag cover, and some plastic beakers or tupperware , wrap the outside of the tupperware in say Black Vinyl , cut two holes and glue the beakers to the back using a glue gun.

Fit back in to dash and finish with some large rings or something like that?

Some cars have a huge cross brace behind that space..

Whip the blank off and have a look before drilling

I used to drive a Toyota Avensis pool car a few years back: it had a reet clever cup holder that emerged from the dash on one push and retracted back in on the next push: this may fit in the blank?

It was the best engineered bit of the car.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Them brackets can be ground off the bar, they are mounts for the steering column to bolt to on left hand drive cars do not cut through the strengthening bar though,

Nice idea everybody to their own but just a friendly pointer, have you seen the crash test for mgtf mgf shells providing no babyseats fitted i would be inclined to fit the passenger airbag. The bracket should be there and check to see if you have two red plugs hanging around doing nothing if so they are your passenger airbag plugs.

Good Thinking Batman!

You just opened up a whole new world of possibilities, quite a few varieties on Ebay from various cars.

I am liking the Saab one too

Great idea! I like the dual Saab holders.

Are you bidding on these? If so I won't bid against you.
