I was up in the Midlands on Tuesday and had to stay overnight, my wife was picking me up yesterday morning. I told her to Bring the F as it would be good to give it a decent run and I may need the roof down to keep me awake as i had been up all night.

I get a call from my wife to tell me that after approx 10 miles, the car had kicked out smoke from the exhaust and started to lose power, she pulled over straight away and called me.

The car got recovered and taken home, RAC guy said the obvious - head gasket.

Looking this morning, header tank is empty, dipstick is covered in Mayo, i did start the car, smoke poured out of the exhaust, it smelled like rotten eggs, then the car died.

There was no overheating so hopefully no major damage has been done.

If you cannot do it yourself mobile mechanic price is around £350, although at Christmas that is going to feel like £750

Ah, man that is the pits! Great time of year to decide to do that, not.
I don't know where you are but Jon (Rough luck) is short of work at the minute.

I wont be doing it myself, i used a mobile mechanic before for my sons Rover. I may look at using Russell this time. as you say this time of year is expensive enough, ad to the fact i haven't worked this week as i have been with a very sick relative in hospital.

This car just keeps throwing up surprises.

I offered up Jon as an alternative to Russell if you want it done quickly. We all know how busy Russell is.

we have got her started today,she has a few issues to say the least minor things ,at one time she was dead in the water,non starting and not even talking to the diagonstic machine.so she spent a night in the warm workshop.and today she started so there is hope for her yet. more work on her tomorrow
